Alternator not working?

Featured Replies

Hi

4 days ago my car would not start because the battery was dead.

I had the battery changed and the problem was solved.....NOT.

2 days ago the battery light activated while driving.....I stopped and verified that the aux belt was OK and drove home.

I have measured the battery vaoltage with stopped engine to about 12,1 V. With the engine running the battery voltage drops to about 11,6V (prop. because of the lights and so on)

I have tried to disconnect the 2-wire plug at the alternator and verified that the batteri light turns off.

If i then meaqsure the voltage accross these two wires with the engine running and the voltmeter only read few mV.

Why is this? - as I understand these wires should suplly the current to the magnetic coil in the alternator and if the light is on a current is running.

What is supplying this current for the alternator to work? - I think my problem is hidden there!

Load sensor wires snapped

Running above gearbox very common fault

Causes alternator not to charge battery below 1500rpm iirc

The load sensor wire is the big black one on the alternator right? - I have tested this connection to the battery and it is OK (6 ohm).

Nah there 2 wires that run over the top of the gearbox... Either can snap very common fault throughout the vag range

Im not too clued up on it but have a search for load sensor wires.... You'll need to extend the loom and re-solder / crimp the wires

Thin Blue wire.

I've got this very issue at the moment so i'll report back if i get it fixed first :)
