Strut braces ordered - impressed with the price

Featured Replies

I had a talk with my insurance the other day and they told me that if I fitted a strut brace to my Octy, as long as a Skoda dealer fitted it, there would be no extra charge.

Rude not to, I thought.

So I went to the Audi dealer this morning to order the bits - and I was rather pleased at the prices!

Lower strut brace

Hmm, did you get a price for the fitting? Also, which insurance company are you with?

*goes off to search for more strut brace info* ;)

I'm with First Alternative.

I didn't get a price as such, but they agreed that it would take no more than an hour. And as I'm supplying the bits, and will be hanging about while they do it, they ain't gonna get away with charging any more!!

Lower strut brace

Hi will these parts fit the octavia vrs and is there any part no's for them could i not get them from my skoda dealer

and why did you go to the audi delaer

thanks

Yes, the S3 upper and lower braces will fit...and no, you wouldn't ge them from your Skoda dealer as these are Audi parts.

Remember RS has more or less TT front suspension.

Can't remember the part number....do a search they have been listed before....look for post by ncarring as this has the correct nut and bolt numbers.

Should take no more than 30 minutes....you'llhave to put car on axles stands or ramps to do.

Upper brace you'll have to drill the holes yourslef and get nut and bolts....check out fitting guide by Monkeyhanger.

I found em on here...

1 x LOWER Strut Brace (Part No: 8N0-199-403-B)

2 x Cap Nuts for the above (Part No: N908 106 01)

2 x Bolts for the above (Part No: N104 176 01)

1 x UPPER Strut Brace (Part No: 8L9-805-629-A)

Also I'll be needing

Use M8 or M10 Bolts as you prefer, 10's will fit, 8's will be easier

6 x M8 OR M10 x 25mm long Bolts

12 x M8 or M10 Flat Washers

6 x M8 or M10 Spring washers (use between nuts & Flat washers on the top fixings)

6 x M8 or M10 Nuts. I used the type with nylon locking inserts.

At least2 x 6mm HSS drill bits for pilot holes

1 x 8.5mm or 10.5mm HSS bit for full size holes, depending on bolts used.

Suitable colour paint for holes (i used smooth hammerite as its out of sight)

How much and what improvment is gained with both top and bottom strut braces thanks

Can you post some piccies when it has been fitted

Quick update - the strut braces were due to be fitted by the dealer yesterday but they've put me off till next Monday - ah well at least I'll get a courtesy car of some sort to play with!

I will post pics when I finally get them fitted.

.check out fitting guide by Monkeyhanger.

Where is the fitting guide? I've done a seach through the site, but have failed to find anything.

when you drill the holes for the upper brace do you have to do anything to the now exposed metal to prevent corrosion or whatever or am i missing the point? do you apply sealant or something?

why does the insrance company care who fitted it?? and how coudl they tell lol !

Joel

The insurance company cares as it's been fitted by the Skoda Dealer - which makes it a dealer-fitted option ;)

Sorry to drag this up, but have we any pics yet, or a fitting guide? Is it ok to just fit the bottom brace? I am a bit loath to drill my bodywork...

Thanks, think i will go for it then :)
