vRS Window Wipers

Featured Replies

Hi

My vRS rear wipers seem to work themselves sometimes when the window is wet? I havent touched the stalk when this happens? My husband says that the front wipers do the same sometimes as well.. Do I have a fault or is their an in built rain sensor on the car to make them work themselves?

Anyone else on here experienced the same thing?

Hiya,

If you have the front wipers switched on, and then engage reverse the back wiper will do a quick sweep to clear the rear screen! Really handy if you ask me.

Also if you squirt the screen to clean it, the wipers will swish a couple of times, stop then wipe again, to catch any drips - also very useful IMO.

@maria. As the others have said, if you have your front wipers on and you select reverse then the rear wiper gives an auto wipe. There are no rain sensers on the Fab vRS so the fronts wont be reacting to the rain.

@ RCe. Handy? Shirley, you must be joking! I find this a pain!

Imagine the scenario if you will. I've been travelling up the motorway for 40 miles in very light rain, the gritters were out the night before and the spray off the road is worse than the rain! I've got my front wipers on the lowest intermittent setting and have to keep cleaning the front window the spray is that bad. Ok, so I get home, swing out into the road in order to reverse into my drive only to find that when I put it in reverse the stupid rear wiper goes, "ahh sir, you're reversing. I'll just wipe the window for you". It then proceeds to smear all the crap I've collected on the motorway over the back window so I can now see precisely sweet FA! I'd rather decide whether or not I put the back wiper on thanks!

Not that its happened to me on more than one occasion you understand! But in theory, yeah I'd agree its a good idea. Is it good in practice? IMO, no.

@ SteveRS. This also annoys me! Im quite capable of flicking the wipers on one more time if they require it. The wipers on the vRS have proved themselves pretty good and more often than not don't require this automatic "extra wipe"! I CAN DO IT MYSELF THANKS!

Jeeze I think I need a chill pill! Do these auto wipes annoy anyone else as much as it does me? Time for a lie down.....

Very much so on the motorway, yes. On slow roads & sitting in traffic, the auto-sweep is more useful.

he he he

Well... when you put it like that! :D

Time for a lie down.....

 Time to stop then and use the pants rear wash jet... Which only makes it 1/3 the way up the screen... But it'll probably clear a semi circle about 4" high which should be enough for reversing purposes. ;)

The way around the light rain / wipers issue is use ombrello on the front screen, then there's no need to wipe at all. :D

The rear washer jet is adjustable Jase! Mine is now doing a great job of cleaning my roof ;)

Chris

The rear washer on mine reaches the top of the arc of the wiper. And it has been like that since I picked it up.

Personnally I find the auto wiper bits very useful.

Perhaps a midway between spraying the bottom of the rear window and the roof could be more useful ;)

My front wipers dont have an auto sweep after they have been cleaned!! :thumbdwn: Is this only a feature on the 05 models, mine is 04.

Now where's the fun in that ;) I keep bending all the pins I use to adjust it so I'll have to get some strong ones to lower it a bit more.

The car is trying to help youy that's why it's called a Curtosy wipe... Had it on my Old Clio 172, good idea IMHO.

I know what it is. Like I said, it sounds good in theory, but in practice I've found it to be terrible!

I love it, I was always manually wiping after a squirt before. ooh-er missus!
