Octavia total electric failure

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced sudden complete loss of all electrics, followed by spontaneous recovery after 40 minutes?

I had been driving my 2011 Octavia MPI 1.6 petrol estate for an hour in light rain.

I had the dipped headlights on, and on arrival at my destination, switched off the engine but I did not turn off the headlights.

I used the keyfob to try to open the boot and nothing happened. I then found that no electrics worked. I switched off the headlights but no change. No internal or external lights, no radio, no dispaly on turning on ignition and could not start. The keyfob flashed but the doors did not respond.

I went for a drink and returned 40 minutes later, pressed the keyfob and everything worked.

The car seems fine now, but the clock was now 40 minutes slow.

I will take it to the garage but wonder if this is a known problem.

Haven't had this mine, sorry to hear you've had a glitch with your MPI estate...be interesting to see what Skoda say, as I've never had any main dealer (Ford, Vauxhall, and esp FIAT) be able to identify an intermittent fault! Keep us posted, please, and I hope you get it sorted.

Oh and welcome btw - I don't post a great deal in here, but it's a very friendly group from what I have seen over the last 5 years!

Hi Nick, welcome to the forums, at least your under warrenty, looks as though the water could be shorting out the electrics and then dries out or you must have a loose connection poss above the battery where there is some main fuse links, but keep us posted on what it is. cheers - Stuart
