Just bought a set of steel wheels with winter tyres, does anyonr know if I will need different length bolts when I swap them for the alloys.

Last year I've checked with officials - no, same bolts should be ok;

My steel rims and tires have exactly same size as summer's alloys though...

Check with the wheel suppliers alloys and steel normally have different taper faces where the bolt touches the wheel.

Alloy wheels used to have a very rounded taper face and steel had a sharply defined angle.

My spare is an OE supplied standard 16" steel wheel and the bolts used are those fitted to the 17" alloys.

Same for me, but I will take one out and check taper.

Thanks for all your responses, much appreciated.

And I checked with the dealer when this query arose previously. Same bolts are to be used for steel and alloy wheels.
