Any recomendations on when to carry out first oil change on the 130 PD engine

Featured Replies

I know the service book states that if on variable service schedule , you can wait untill the gizmo advises service schedule , however what would most members recomend for the 130 PD engine . Have done 9k in 6 months and was considering just doing an oil change . Is there any benefit to this or should i just wait for the 20 k / 2 years or gizmo message .

Assuming its mounted in an Octy or Superb, I would wait until it asks for a service. My Superb asked for its first service at 13.5k, giving a 1k warning (thats after 20 months and mostly town driving)

I changed my oil at 3000 miles from new. I didn't have to, some people think it's probably a waste of money, but I always feel better running an engine in and changing the oil before you explore the outer limits of it's ability :)

Leave it until it tells you it needs a service.

It's 30,000 miles/2 years for the Octavia PD. I would stick with changing the oil when the service indicator reminds you that a service is due.

One thing must be certain: changing the oil and filter every 6000 miles

It is a hard trade-off. If you are going to sell you car, it may not be a big deal. If you don't mind replacing the gearbox, then ditto.

I will definitely get the oil changed at a fairly low mileage for the running-in metal scrapings reason. It will help a little.
