I got some last year (Michelin)just before bad weather, never had them out the bag. Winter tyres worked a treat, Drove past some 4 x 4s even.

I got some snow socks last year. Worked fine when I used them for the last 500 meters home and back to the main road.

Already got my winter tyres in the shed for this year.

where did you get the snow socks whats the best way to go about them I think they are best answer for me I have to use chains at work and HATE them with a deep burning passion !

I got mine here http://www.autosock.co.uk/

Don't forget to take them off immediately when on tarmac.

Anyone know if it is worth putting snow socks over winter tyres in extreme conditions?

Some say that proper winter tyres are as good as having snow socks on all the time.

I ask as I have some snow socks from my last car, that fortunately also fit my vRS 18" wheels, but I am putting some winter tyres on some 16" rims this year and want to know if it is also worth investing in some snow socks to fit these wheels.

For their price, I would keep them in boot just for piece of mind.

No I wouldn't bother buying any as well as winters. If you already had them then fair enough keep them in the boot but otherwise no. I have had Nokians on my Octavia for the last two years and the only time it got stuck was when the snow got up over the bumper and the axles was bogged in. No tyre or snow sock was goingto get round that. Only a snow shovel helped

Ok thanks, saved myself £60, after spending £300-£400 for winter tyres of course!

LOL, now you can do what I did last year, carry a tow rope and rescue 4x4s on summer tyres that get stuck in the snow :giggle:

Good plan, £10 a tow I'll be break-even in no time :)

I warn you now, Touareg drivers are usually less than impressed at having to be rescued by 2wd Octavias

Got my Michelin Easi Grips at Motaman in Bristol (internet) first class service.
