Fuelling Issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone has experienced a similar issue to mine.

I've got nearly 2500 on the clock now on my 11-plate vRS which i've had since July (and still bloomin' loving).

Last week, prior to a long drive from Manchester to London - I stopped to fuel up with the tank on about a quarter full. After getting only 20 or so litres in the nozzle kept clicking off as if the tank was full - but clearly it wasn't as I know these vRS have a bigger tank than the average 45 litre hatches out there.

Anyway, I gave up trying to get more fuel in and set off. The guage did show full (but this is an illusion im sure you're all aware of) - and it started it descent to zero-dom after only 30-odd miles (which is too soon for motorway driving and thus confirming I could have put a lot more in).

Today, on the return trip and with the tank showing a quarter full again... I got the same clicking of the nozzle again half way through. I persevered and eventually got £60 on Shell V-power in the bloody thing - but the tank was hissing at me like a snake. Clearly the pressure is trying to escape - but I thought modern cars had an internal mechanism to allow you to fuel fast and in one go without letting air escape.

Anyway, a bit strange, and hoping it doesn't keep happening. Any thoughts.

p.s. I usually use Tesco momentum 99 - but today I used V-Power and I've done 220miles with the tank still showing 5/8ths full (it didnt budge from full until I did past 160 miles) - cracking stuff.

Try pulling the nozzle out ever so slightly or change your angle when you fill up.

I thought the vRS had a smaller than average tank....

45 litre tank to my knowledge with a small breather tank. The small nipple thing inside the fuel thingy is the air escape thing when you tighten the cap back in. Sometimes when going on a long jouney I can squeeze 50+ litres in by 'venting'

On my Elegance estate if I put the nozzle fully in it continually cuts out if the flow more than a trickle. So long as I pull back a couple of inches it fills fine.
