Just collected my 57 plate (reg Jan 2008) Octavia VRS and have decided that the first job on the cards is a Columbus retrofit. Had a quick browse through the forum and notice that some people needed to change the Canbus gateway behind the steering wheel. Does anyone know if i would need to change the canbus in my car and what sort of vcds coding would be needed to get the headunit up and going. I dont have maxidot if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance

You need somebody with VCDS to tell you which can gateway you have. You will also need it to install the Columbus unit.

I reckon your gateway will be fine

Canbus should be fine as your car should be newer.

Only early 2007 or earlier who are guaranteed to need a canbus update.

I brought at 57 plate VRS 18 months ago and fitted a Columbus HU without any issues, also updated to a new version of software 26XX. Unit has been working fine and no battery drain issues.

Darg you will moe than likely have an S revision gateway so it will be fine and will not suffer battery drain

Think there was a reasonably priced on in the Classifieds at the moment...
