Interior LED bulbes stays on dimmed?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I have just installed my LED intrior lights in my Roomster 2008.

The problem is that when I lock my car the lights are still glowing a little even if the engine is off/doors are locked.

The lights only glow a little in open door mode. When I turn the switch to off there is no light.

Why?

Will this drain my battery or do any damage?

The reason is that the LEDs light up even from very small currents, and there is obviously some current in the system to check if a door is open or not. Therefore the lights are dimly lit. I don't think that the fact that the LEDs are glowing will have any impact on anything other than the LEDs themselves - I am not sure how long periods of too low voltage affects LEDs. The current is there in the system anyway.

I have also replaced the interior lightning, but I did not get this type of behaviour. What kind are your LED bulbs? Perhaps more powerful LEDs would cure this since the weak current would not be enought to lit these...

Thanks :)

Do you think this will drain my battery over time?

I have posted link to the different bulbs.

Can you post link to your bulbs?

Do they keep on always or go off after 20/30 seconds.

From my experience in the Octavia, the center on (tubular) had to bee canbus.

Also the canbus was only needed at either front or back.

I did put on both, they are whiter. Same went for the trunk and puddle lights.

Let's see if I remember, I have tried several bulbs...

Rear driving lights: My link, in red. Page in finnish

Internal lights. festoon replacement: My link

Internal lights t10 replacements: My link

DRL Replacements: My link

These are the ones I am currently using. Sorry for the finnish pages, try google translate if you need more detailed info

This wont drain your battery.

It is current that a normal bulb would receive too but because a normal bulb has a much higher resistance then it doesn't illuminate.

You need can-bus LED's (with built in resistor) or fit a resistor to the wiring.

Trick is to solder a resistor to the back of the festoon bulb in the middle. Or replace one of the bulbs for a standard/canbus one which will put the drain back on the residual current.
