Nokia E5-00 in "brick" mode

Featured Replies

Our IT support partners remotely pushed out a Nokia OS update yesterday which at best corrupted some of our corporate mobiles, other (like my E5) have been bricked.

When I power it on, I don't even get to the handshake animation, let alone anything that resembles a phone.

Anyone know how I can re flash it or overwrite the firmware? It's well and truly bricked so can't damage it any further than it already is. It doesn't connect to the pc properly so I can't update using ovi suite.

Bloody phones about 2 weeks old too!

All our E5 phones across the world will have to be replaced, and all E72 C6 and E7 phones all need a full hardware reset and OS update. Costs for our site alone are well over a grand.

Are you sure that Nokia Repair Centre's can't reflash them?

our global helpdesk sent out an email saying the need to be replaced. New ones are already being ordered I think. Was just wondering if there wasn't a way I could flash it myself? Got any extra software to do it with?

I know from using a 3rd party piece of software that one item 'screwed' up on a previous Nokia phone and full resets etc couldn't solve it.

You could try here though as you've got nothing to lose. There's maybe an older version somewhere on the net as well.

TThe phone doesn't connect to the pc properly enough for Ovi to see it, so can't use any of those methods. I need something a little more, well, forceful.

At this point you are probably looking at a spot of surgery and JTAG to get any further.

If they are 2 weeks old then Nokia should repair them!

We have bricked Blackberries all the time and Orange just send a new one out the next day.

I don't think it has so much to do with Nokia as our idiot IT Support company

I assume you've done the whole battery off overnight, connect to pc open software update then put the battery back?

If yes then the only recovery is via Nokia repair centre, or using python.

I've only had the battery out for about ten minutes.

What's python?

Ovi doesn't even know its connected when I plug it in via USB.

There's a program called Phoenix 2008 i've used in the past. That might be worth googling.

Ovi wont, you have to trick it.

Python is the software NRC's use to flash phones. Not sure if it's an official Nokia program or not.

Take it you've gained a phone for free?

Take it you've gained a phone for free?

Not sure what you mean? A new one was ordered for me but foolishly my impatience meant I got it working before I got my hands on the new one. Was quite pleased from a geeky point of view to have got it working though!

As in have you gained a phone, or simply fixed it prior to work clawing it back?

  • Author

No, I fixed it before the new one landed. Schoolboy error really.... so "my" new one will go to someone else.
