2010 Cruise Control Query

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I’m looking a bit of info regards installing cruise control on my 2010 Octavia 1.6Tdi S. Specifically which replacement cruise compatible stalk I need to get.

It would seem from my research that it all hinges on the steering wheel controller. Vagcom tells me that mine is part ‘5K0 953 569 C’. And according to the Rosstech website (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions), this controller is cruise control compatible (at least, it doesn’t say it’s not compatible!).

The only stalk I was able to track down (part 5K0 953 502 N 9B9) is for cars with a trip computer I believe, which mine doesn’t have.

I fitted cruise to my Mk4 Golf some time ago and it was fairly easy, the VW kit came with all the parts and instructions! It seems a bit more complicated on the Octavia so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Wizzbit

It's this kit you need: http://tinyurl.com/3mt8bwu

FYI, the trip computer (Maxidot) is controlled by the stalk on the other side, for the windscreen wipers.

PN is 1K0 953 513G 9B9

The whole kit is controlled by the steering wheel module, so you'll need to check up on compatibility for that.

Worth noting that 2010/2011 cars have now changed to the combined stalk assembly where both stalks are one and the steering column control unit is built into the contact ring behind the steering wheel.

Good to know

.

Unless you have a multi function steering wheel in which case the computer is controlled by buttons on the steering wheel and the wiper stalk is "plain"

So if the 2 stalks are now in a single combined unit there should be one with cruise control and a plain wiper stalk for use with MFSW.

Quite correct, but the OP mentions finding a stalk with buttons for the trip computer, hence me mentioning it :)

Don't think I made myself clear. He says that the only stalk assembly he can find is a joint one with the computer controls on the wiper stalk - my post was just to point out that there must be one available without computer controls which is the type that he wants.

ie

car with no cruise and no computer gets 2 plain stalks (eg S trim)

car with no cruise and computer gets plain indicator stalk and computer equipped wiper stalk (eg SE trim)

car with cruise and computer gets both stalks with controls (eg Elegance trim)

car with cruise, computer and MFSW gets cruise control indicator stalk and plain wiper stalk (eg L&K trim)

The OP wants cruise control but has no computer so he wants the last one.

Does that make sense? I've confused myself now! :D

Yes, I definitely want the last one!

I might wander into my local friendly Skoda dealer and ask for a Laurin and Klement Octavia stalk to see what happens!

Unless there's some kind person out there with an L&K model who can read off their stalk part number with VAGCOM??

Thanks for all your replies, Wizzbit

VAG COM wont give you the part number for the stalk, its a switch not a control unit.

The listings on ETKA no longer tell you what the stalks have on them for various part numbers just the one listed for your car. So you need a car with the spec your after, grab its chassis number then do a search for the stalk fitted to that car.
