I bought a New Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate with a 1.6 Tdi Engine in November 2009, it's a lovely Car apart from the Paintwork.

The car is finished in a Metallic Silver and over the past few months or more I've noticed that it seems to scratch very, very easily. I've had all makes of cars in the past and always take great care but never known a car as bad as this for marking. For example I have two seperate scratches to the bonnet area which appear to have gone right through to the metal/Plastic.

I notice that there are references to this problem mentioned in the Autoexpress and What Car Magazines and a reason for Warranty work being carried out.

Just wondered if any other members out there have experienced these problems as I am thinking that the Paintwork is very thin, sub standard and really should provide a tougher finish as it has a Metallic coating ?

On Monday, I am taking the car back to my dealer to have it examined as I feel it needs to have a full respray under the Paint Warranty.

Any update? There is no "metallic coating", its a clear coat that goes on top. VAG is normally thicker and harder than say jap paint, but you need to find someone with a PDG to measure the thickness. It might be the paint has been repaired in a previous life.
