Retrofits - what can I have?

Featured Replies

Next at the top of today's list of questions, and slightly less pressing than the others (should I have asked them the other way around to change their position in the forum?!) are to do with retrofits.

I really liked PDC on my old car and would enjoy having it on the Octavia. I've seen that it's nigh on impossible to get anybody, other than the factory, to fit a system that will integrate with the Stream MP3 and display the little graph that shows what you're going to bump into because you're too busy looking at the graph. So for now, the noise would do. I am not really a fan of the big, recessed/flanged factory sensors and would prefer something that looked a bit more like the small/flush sensors found the the FL, newer Audi/VW, etc - has anybody sourced a (colour coded) kit along these lines and retro fitted? I have seen one thread on retrofitting PDC and I learned so much from it, but I'd like something perhaps a bit more factory than one of the ebay or Valeo/X-Vision kits.

Also, is there any DAB retrofit for the Skoda, other than fitting a double DIN headunit with an adaptor plate? I've seen the Columbus and Bolero (but don't know the difference other than one has Sat Nav and the other doesn't), but I'd really like to be able to fit a DAB (preferaly OEM look) and an MDI so I can charge and control my iPod. In an ideal world, I'd like integrated Bluetooth but am likely to source another Parrot kit before then anyway.

There are retrofit PDC systems that could be completely hidden behind the bumper. Yes, you wouldn't get the screen display, just a speaker fitted for the beeps.

DAB - that should be possible to integrate with Bolero & Columbus, and the MDI retrofit definitely is.

DAB should be a case of sourcing the module and probably changing the antenna base too, so that you can receive DAB signal.

Thanks Wardy, I will have to find out a bit more about the DAB module. Is it fair to assume it'll work the same as VW's?

I would be interested in this Dab module if you can find out any info. I work in Shrops and could do with some decent stations!

I did have a retrofit PDC before and it wasn't terribly accurate or quick to react and sounded cheap. An original VAG system would be preferable even if it wouldnt integrate with the headunit. DAB is something I will have to look into further and I'm only assuming it's a module at present rather than a full system. I expect the antenna cable would also need to be changed but I have used Autoleads splitters in the past that do a good job.

£20 quids worth of retrofit PDC from ebay is as good as the factory fit stuff - I should know because my last octy was two weeks old before I drilled 20mm holes in the bumper! My current FL has factory fit PDC and it's no better!

Get one fo the kits that includes the holesaw and use the attatched file as a guide for drilling.

If you take off the rear bumber and look at the back of it the hole cut locations are marked on it !

Yeah but you don't need to take off the rear bumper with my measurements which are as near as dammit the same as the original :D
