Satnav in Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi there

The adaptor on my Tomtom satnav is to big for the cigerette lighter hole! Its a standard adaptor that fits all cigerette lighters yet doesnt fit in mine? I have a Fabia 1.4 2000.

Cheers

Odd.

Try buying an alternative ciggerate lighter adapter maybe?

I mean plugging in one of those double socket 12v adaptors into the skoda's one, that should cure it

*******s! Be a man and give it a push! (So she said!)

Welcome to this forum - I'm not aware of any problems with the power outlet - I've not found anything that won't fit. It can be a little recalcitrant and need a twist to get it to connect sometimes though.

get an extension 4 the outlet as its that far from the windscreen nothing will reach it anyway

Weird ... which TomTom sat-nav? Mine fits perfectly. Although the lighter socket is in completely the wrong place IMHO ...

Cheers for the help guys.

Its a tomtom N14644. The socket in The cigerette lighter is definately to small as today I tried brute force, pushing and twisting yet it wouldnt go in! Ive looked around the internet for information but it seems that all cigerette lighters in cars are a standard size and the charger on the end of my tomtom cable is a universal size that should fit all car cigerette lighter sockets!

That's odd ... N14644 looks to be a One XL? I have an IQ Routes XL, which is fine ... :S

Hi there

Just had a closer look and its a N14644 Canada 310??

Cheers

There's 2 sizes,

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size A

Receptacle inside diameter: 20.93 - 21.01 mm (median 20.97 mm)

Plug body diameter: 20.73 - 20.88 mm (median 20.805 mm)

Most often used in American automobiles.

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size B

Receptacle inside diameter: 21.41 - 21.51 mm (median 21.455 mm)

Plug body diameter: 21.13 - 21.33 mm (median 21.18 mm)

Most often used in European automobiles,

(and sometimes as a second socket in American automobiles expressly for DC power connections)

Plugs often include a pilot light to indicate a connection has been made.

Although, this would mean you had a European changer with a American socket in your car.. which just doesn't make sense.

The sprung connections on the side of the plug haven't somehow got jammed stiff, have they?

....It's a long shot, but the socket in your Fabia doesn't have the remains of some previous owners adapter or lighter jammed in there, does it?

Thanks for the detailed info Rob I appreciate your help.

Ive had a good look at the socket and there's definately nothing stuck in there! I havnt owned a car for 10 years untill 2 weeks ago, and back then there wasnt any satnavs, so Im a novice in this area! I'll take a trip to Halfords tomo and see if they can shed some light on my little dilemma and I'll report back!

Thanks again

Steve
