First decent MPG test

Featured Replies

First decent test of the MPG with a good run to work and back. 80 miles each way, with the first/last 10 miles being on country roads and the middle 70 miles being fairly free flowing motorway.

Averaged 73.4mpg from the computer (cant do a dip test yet as tank still over half full with 300 miles covered)which was 74.1mpg this morning and 72.7mpg this afternoon. Identical route so eliminates gradient help etc etc.

Bearing in mind the extra urban figure quoted by skoda is 78.7mpg I am pleased to get within 5mpg with a tight engine and a car that has done 350 miles.

Overall average that includes round town weekend driving currently showing 63.9mpg. I will know in the next couple of days how accurate the computer is, but initial signs are good. looks like 650 miles should be possible from this tank and that equates to a tank average of 65mpg which would be a good start.

i got 540 miles everytime from a full tank when i drove to berlin that was with a roof box and four people fully loaded :|

54mpg is quite good under those conditions I guess.

I am hoping that just doing my commute )no mucking about round town) I should see well into the 700's on a tank

i just made my first trip to the station, full tank says 370 miles to go :o

What speed were you travelling on the motorway?

At 70mph on a 100+ mile run I have only averaged 60mpg.

That's at 60mph with cruise - A/C running on the return leg

This mornings average (again from the OBC) is 78.5mpg under the same conditions.

That's close enough for government work - hopefully by early next year when the car has closer to 10k on the clock I might even squeak into the 80's. Managed to beat the manufacturer figures on the Alfa so who knows

Wow ... and with on a few hundred miles on the clock.

It would be interesting to swap cars with you for a month as I've never had much over 60mpg on even a reasonably long gentle run.

I have found overall my OBC is surprisingly accurate as never more than 1mpg difference from my calculations over several top ups so averaging any variations in the fill levels.
