75ps to 100ps in 1 hour?

Featured Replies

i own a 1996 75ps 1.6 mpi felicia.

i've noticed that some vw polos (1.6 mpi) are 100ps.

is this just a simple case of a different ecu, or is more involved?

I believe it is more involved - increasing fuelling on a naturally aspirated engine tends to gain at most 8-10ps.

I'm not too sure what the exact differences are between the versions of the 1.6MPi though...

Is there not an element of 8v vs 16v? In which case there is considerable more work involved! I could be wrong...

Back into my corner.

Both the 75bhp and 100bhp versions of the 1.6 used by Skoda are 8v...

could be different cams, pistons, ECU, exhaust, injection unit.... the list is long and costly i'd imagine.

thanks robmawer for the info.

going too the breakers yard and sourcing a 100ps ecu.

worth trying?

I don't think it'll work...the main differences which causes the power increase won't be down to the ECU...most cost effective way probably would be to source a whole 100ps engine.

However, that won't be especially cheap or easy, and for an extra 25ps it probably won't be that much better as to justify the hassle. :)
