Dance Radio - CD TEXT

Featured Replies

Hi guys. So basically, I received a CD mix as a P.R campaign from a local nightclub. I was pleasantly surprised when it came up with the artist and title of the track on the display of my Dance radio in my Fabia (similar to how an iPod enabled radio shows the artist and title of the current song). I tried to do the same by burning mp3 files on to a CD, but I could not manage to get the text to show up like the other CD did.

Does anyone know how to get this to work? If so, what software should I use to do so?

Thanks in advance.

The data is embedded within the .mp3 file

In windows explorer...

right click > properties > details tab

this will show album, artist, year etc...

Most files will have this info already, if not, you should be able to type over it.

Then just burn it as normal.

It's not actually cd-text he is after. CD-Text holds the information only in a normal Audio CD as the one he got from the nightclub. In order to have this information on mp3-cds its the ID3 tag of each mp3 file that shoud be updated (if not already).

azngordy7: The reason you didn't get the songs info coming up as in the Audio Cd was probably that the id3 tags in your mp3 files did not have that information. I suppose you pressed once the INFO button right? because even if your files have all the info inside, mp3 playback won't show nothing more than "Track 0x" untill you press the INFO button.

So assuming you did press the INFO button then you either a) Had track's title shown (if ID3 is ok) or B,) you get "No Title" If ID3 is missing. If that's the case there is another alternative than having to manually update all mp3 you want to burn in mp3-cds. As you will see, when you once press INFO, the available options below the track change to Artist, Title, Album, etc etc. and there is one at the end called "FILE". Voilaaaa.... Press the button under FILE and you'll have the songs filename (as it is in your computer) shown up.

I know it takes 2 presses to reach it, INFO > FILE but its an easy solution.

PS. Whatismore, ID3 tag has 2 version inside each file. ID3 v1, ID3v2. I have found out that you have to have ID3v2 info updated in order for it to show properly on the INFO page of the radio. Id3v1 isn't enough. But as I said, there is always the FILE option which works with no tags at all.

PS2. Another way is that you can have the tracks filename pop up in the maxidot display, by selecting MUSIC etc etc. Not sure its very practical though...

Otherwise, you can search for a - ID3 tag editor / creator - and then make it update all your files. Mind you, that you should know which options you select there as you may end up ruining all ID3 information of the files.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

I've had some sort of luck creating CD-TEXT by creating .CUE files, but I can only access the artist, song title and album title via the 'info' button on my dance radio - so I'm guessing the ID3 is fine?. However, it's still not the same as the CD I received from the nightclub - the track name would appear in place of where "TRACK 01" appears (the display you get as soon as you put in a CD). For example: "01. STROBE.MP3"

Could you give me more information on this INFO > FILE method, newbie69?

Sorry if I don't make any sense. If anyone else has any ideas, please do let me know. Shame my radio doesn't have a MDI port.

Hey guys. I found a solution to my problem after a bit of googling. I had to create a MP3 CD (data cd) and not an audio CD. It's so great now. I can store almost 100 songs on one disc now, since it's not limited in runtime like an audio CD (74 mins, I think.) :D

Hope that helps any of you that have come across the same problem as me.

Could you give me more information on this INFO > FILE method, newbie69?

Well not really much to say!

Just insert the CD, it will start playing showing "Track 1". Then you press once the INFO button (next to the musical note button) and then you will see different options available on screen. The last one (I think) is called "FILE". So just press the button that is just under the FILE option. (don't press FILE itself its not a touch screen!)

Then you'll see the song's filename, exactly as you have it in your computer. Try and let me know!

Hey newbie69. I got that method working already previously using a .CUE file. It's essentially a playlist with CD-TEXT stored. I've just discovered the Dance Radio was MP3 compatible today. I discovered that if I created a playlist in iTunes and burn it as a MP3 CD, I could get 108 tracks onto one CD, and not be limited by the 74 minutes of an audio CD. It also showed me the filepath, file name, title, artist and album (genre too I think?). It also follows the directory of my folders - I can merge playlists together and can browse the songs in groups rather than 108 tracks in one go. Thank you Skoda for supporting MP3 :D

Well, yes that's how mp3-Cd playback works and it's on the market quite a long time! :D Anyway, it's good you found out!
