Stereo replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all i am wondering if anyone knows if there are any headunits and or adapters available that will enable the climate display to be kept when replacing the stereo?

I have a Bolero unit and if possible in the future i will be looking to upgrade the headunit but want to keep the climate pop up display when i adjust the temperature etc.

I have searched online to see if anyone with a scirocco or golf mk6 has changed theirs but cant find anything :(

Apart from the columbus, there is nothing else that will display the climate display and other vehicle related stuff (eg. parking sensors).

There is aftermarket HU's that will display OEM messages.

You can get both climate & parking radar on Zenec NC2010 (which i DO NOT recommend)

Then there is the Pioneer 2011 range the high end stuff can all support it!

Cheers

Buy a Columbus and save yourself a load of greif!!

Could you please elaborate on the "greif" part?

I only ask as I had a Zenec NC2010 which fitted perfectly in terms of intergration it was just the customer support that was lacking!

I'm now awaiting my Pioneer HU to turn up which I have since in the plastic/metal so too speak and they too intergrate perfectly with VAG.

Thanks

Be interesting to hear about how the Pioneer works out for you Nick.

Didn't realise they had models that were compatible with the VAG modules for climate and PDC.

Columbus remains as an 'obvious' option though dainott. Not sure if that would be a sufficently worthwhile upgrade from the Bolero though, navigation ability aside? Depends what you find lacking on the Bolero I suppose.

I'm happy with the bolero unit really and would/will keep it if I can get my components sounding good off it ( I'm getting a speaker output to RCA adapter) connected via a 4 channel amp, but just thought that if there is a way of having the climate display on an aftermarket unit then in future I would have alot more control of sound settings etc.

Nick il also be very interested in how the new pioneer range performs if your able to let us know.

Nick Would you know if the pioneer AVH-P4300DVD will show the climate as by the time I buy the iPod connecter for the bolero (MDI) then I'm tempted to sell it and invest in the pioneer.

Anyone know if there is a security code on the bolero when it's moved to another car? When I changed the dash in mine I removed it and refitted and didn't ask for a code then but might if it's moved to a diff car!?

After going on pioneers website it appears that only the new sat nav stereos (AVIC-F30BT and AVIC-F930BT) have the canbus input to display the climate. Doesn't list the port on other models and can't imagine pioneer not shouting about it if it's on them.

Columbus definitely needs a security code but only if moved to a different car so I assume bolero is the same.

Like you've already found out don't look like that model supports canbus features.

Regarding the Bolero it's coded to the instrument cluster if you want to sell it on a dealer can extract it from the instruments. Cannot be done with VCDS.

OK, are you telling me the Zenec had canbus integration and repeater facility to Maxidot? I'd be super surprised if it did!

I don't the slightest issue with "quality" units such as those from Alpine or Pioneer but there have been so many people on here singing the praises of cheap and nasty "Columbus lookalikes" it gets my goat up! The Columbus / Bolero are cracking units - it's the speakers that let the side down and from an ease of installation, sound quality, features and integration with the car electronics, its hard to beat the factory units.

Good luck with the Pioneer - be nice and post a "how to" and some decent pics when you get it :-)

The Zenec on the canbus was great it works with the maxidot and the climate/parking radar.

I just fell out with other "basic" operations of the HU.

I'm looking forward to the Pioneer as I have my 7.1 surround system @ home by Pioneer and it's the dog's bits!

Cheers
