Audio Upgrades

Featured Replies

I've been running my vRS since March 1st and love it, and although the CD player is good, I can't help wanting a new one. Want to put an Alpine system all round.

Question is do any of you know whether or not this is likely to affect the warrantee on the car?

I know you need a facia adapter to fit a new head unit and am thinking if the car only goes in to a dealer for servicing they probably won't take any notice but what's the general consensus here?

Thanks

Will only affect warranty if there is a problem with the speakers or associated components.

If you're worried about it, get the dealer to fit it for you.

Agree with Jon.

The only issue I've ever had with head unit upgrades is the depth inside the dash for the OE unit can be less than required for an aftermarket part. I pulled out my glovebox the other night (looking for rattles!!!) and the space behind the head unit is VERY limited so beware of head units with lots of cables coming straight out! Some come with flying leads which go from the stock ISO connectors to tiny multi plugs on the back of the head unit. You may have to pull the cables out to the side using a piece of string and then get to them by removing the glove box?

As an aside I was wondering about upgrading the speakers. Has anyone used the Skoda dealer parts ??(http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/showroom/accessories/accessories.aspx?model=fabia&category=Audio&subcategory=Speakers)

I could do with finding out the best way of accessing the front ones.

Oh, they do the DAB54 I just bought...

Hi,

I wouldn't have thought it would be a major warranty issue. I replaced mine, with my old one out of my Ford KA (Apline CD 7856RM), and it sounds fantastic :D . Had it fitted by SQPlus of Manchester, for

I wonder how they'd install the upgrade. The OEM speakers are very firmly riveted to the door panels, so you need to take the door trim apart, drill through the rivets, and then rivet the new speakers in place. Quite a lot of work IMHO. See here for my fun and games

Ok thanks all.

Am going to go up to CEL Direct in Leicester, and get them to fit the head unit for me. I know its a very simple job and have done a few for my friends, but would prefer to have "experts" put it in as its a new car, then they can work round any fitting problems.

Will upgrade the head unit first then have a listen to what the speakers can do before i decide if I want to upgrade further.

Have just looked at the Skoda upgrade speakers, and I too would be interested to know if anyone has any experience with them.

Would be brilliant if I could get a Bose system out of an Audi, they sound lovely. Don't think it would be possible though?!

I've just handed back an S4 equipped with Bose upgrade. I cant say it made that much improvement over the standard Symphony system in my previous A4 Sport. My main niggle with the vRS is all the buzzes/rattles. I'm hunting them down one by one...

I would have liked to have got the door cards off and had a go at adding some dynamat inside and while I was in there, and fit something like an infinity component set-up up front and then re evaluate the head unit. At the end of the day my old audi did sound good with the Bose amps/speakers but the S4 still had the same Symphony head unit.

Is the Skoda Symphony the same as the Audi one? It appears to have the same functions, just the buttons have moved about??

ANyone know how much an interior door handle costs?

I've just mullered one of mine trying to access the 3 screws behind. Ooops.

I couldn't get to the catches which hold it down. I ended up sliding a stanley knife blade into the slot and pushing them but the earlier attempts with a screwdriver have marked the trim. I wrapped the end of the screwdriver in tape to try and avoid marking but it didn't work...

Being an audio engineer, I know what sounds good. The stock speakers that come with the fabia are great (at least the ones that I got with the CD player), they pretty much cover most of the spectrum, and the tweeters are good. AND, the EQ in the headunit is amazing, its not harsh, it's just right, and it tweaks the right frequency bands to get the best sound out of them.

However, I personally would not go for the stock speakers again if mine fail. Why? Because they are way overpriced. I got a set (2) of Earthquakes to put in the rear (I have the Comfort 2.0) and I paid only 57 pounds. And these are made in the States. They have more power than the stock speakers, and they sound better too.

Skoda is pretty overpriced with their accessories.
