Rear Wiper Upgrade...

Featured Replies

I'm interested in upgrading the rear wiper to the one in the parts section on this forum :)

I have a few questions...

Is it a straight and easy swap?

I don't want to snap the bolt or encounter any problems changing it because the bolt has been on since new so 5 years! Any way of getting it off safely and easily as I have heard of them breaking the glass etc...

Also is £20 a good price...

Here's the link and I have dibs I hope :)

Also- how do you sort the washer jet out- I have completely no knowledge on this...

Thanks all :)

Washer jet just pulls out of the centre of the existing arm.

Do this before you use a puller as you will mash it... I did :D

It's not a straight swap either, the polo plastic cap needs

trimming/sanding a bit as it's too "tall".

Here's my experience LOL

And a Quality fitting guide.

Looked at the ad and it looks like you'll need a cap as well.

IIRC they are around 3quid.

You'll most likely need a reg number to order one from VW

they were a bit @rsey when I ordered mine.

Luckily at the time the mother in law had a polo of the right

year so I told them that :D

All in for wiper arm, blade and cap came to about £27 when I bought

one for our other Fabia.

A quick look at those threads has put me off! Don't fancy the messing around for a wiper blade lol!

Thanks for the threads- very helpful and informative. :)

It's a really easy switch though....I needed a bit of WD40 which coincidentally fixed my rear jet problem too. My first play around with a dremel too.... :D

Only problem now is that the jet squirts over the roof of the car instead of focussing the spray on the rear window....original cap had a lip on it whereas this VW one that I trimmed doesn't....maybe that's the issue?

I replaced the wiper on my wife's 2003MY Polo and it does not spray onto the roof. Are you sure that the spray bar is not rotating with the wiper arm - it should stay pointing vertically upwards.

I just bought a bosch aero rear wiper blade. No messing about with end caps lol

De-wiper, job done B) If it gets too dirty then the car needs cleaning!

The spray bar is fixed pointing towards the midline...it doesn't rotate. I thought I may have tilted it back when I did the upgrade...it flexes a bit towards the front, but goes back to the old position again...

I thought the bosch aero didn't have retrofit rears....hence the VW upgrade?

I found one on ebay and it was a direct replacement.

I'll see if I can find a link

Yes, link would be good. Then it'll do the job and match my boshe front wipers too :)

Oh dammit! I only went through all that to get bosch aero ones!

I nearly did the same if it wasn't for this thread :p

At least with the Polo 9N set up, the spray bar is meant to point vertically up - and any "hooding" provided by the cover will expect this to be the case - so that is why the spray will be missing the screen. You can pull the nozzle out and refit it, and the pipe its fixed to should be held solidly to the base of the wiper motor assembly.

So I just yank on the nozzle to remove it?

Pretty much... Yes... I wrapped it in a tiny bit of cloth

for protection and then used pliers to remove it.

Then you just replace it with the jet pointing the

right way to suit your wiper arm cap.

Careful, They are hollow so don't grip too tight with the

pliers. £6 odd to replace :o

They are such a tiny part too, proper steep for what it is. :D

Thanks so much! Will get to it soon...didn't realise it was such an easy fix :D
