exhaust or remap?

Featured Replies

cant make up my mind wether to get my car remapped the now or get a filter and exhaust fitted first then go for a stage 2 remap eventuly

looking at £250 for a remap and £320 for a custom made cat-back system so not sure which is the best idea....opinions?:)

if you know you what to stage 2 map the car just get the exhaust.

as much as i would love to get a decent exhaust because i know i'm handing my car back after three years i'm just going remap because the exhaust is just gonna reduce resale value and might even effect warranty.

i really want to hear a cat back system on a vrs though, shame your all thwe way up in scotland.

GO exhaust. otherwise you will be paying for 2 remaps

Yeh thats what i was thinking because im only 18 im going to be keeping it a while so i may aswell go all out with the performace. Iv got a choice between a 2.5 and a 3inch pipe but the 3" is for 300hp+ so i think il stick with the 2.5 then go for either the revo or forge intakes and maybe the forge blow off vavle before a remap to hopefully get in the region off 250hp. Il get a video up if i get the exhaust to let you hear it, im sure a few people would be intrested in it

FYI a few tuners have now said that certain parts of the fuel injection system limit this car to around 225-230bhp.

if you weren't 18yrs old i would probably try to persuade you against a blow off valve but at your age all your mates will probs think it's cool so go for it.

Don't be scared off by the Back Pressure crew, if it doesn't cost much extra go for the 3" pipe so if you do get alot more power from it then you already has an exhaust system to take it.

Forge intakes seem okay, but if the revo one is covered by skoda warranty that will be worth considering.

I recall the youngest vrs owner currently on the site who is 18yr olds also lives in West Lothian!?!? strange

Revo induction kits are covered by Skoda Warranty?

Dream on with 250hp. You'd be lucky to make that with a hybrid turbo, ic, tbe, intake etc.

Stage 1 200hp

Stage 2 with just downpipe 210hp

Stage 2 with full tbe, intake, intercooler 220-225hp.

These engines run extremely hot, and the more power the worse it gets. Whatever you do, dont go for a remap based on'price, as these engines are notoriously hard to tune without issues, so go with a conpany who you uhave found reviews for, or experiences of. Bear in mind youve just spent 14k+ on a new car, and your trying to remap off the cheapest tuner.

Also take alot of tuners figures with a pinch of salt. Theresa few companies who claim BIG figures from just a remap, but from experience they are from generous dynos. Ive not been beaten for figures on the last 2 RR days by alternative tuners who quote 220-230hp and im'only running 213hp.

Also your talking of a cat back exhaust for stage 2. This is a no go. You need a performance downpipe for stage 2 (circa 500) or a full turbo back exhaust (tbe circa £1100), alternatively decat the std downpipe will only cost you around £70 and give the same gains

Wasnt to sure if the blow off valve was neccesary with a stage 2 i just didnt want to blow the turbo. Revo ones a hell of a lot cheaper anyway and i thinl thats me again thats the youngest

Ment to add that the 3" is near enough 400£ so its not much more but im on a tight budget so im undecided on that will need to find out the power gains:/

An uprated diverter valve will maybe hold boost longer, but is not needed. A blow of valve (aka spacer which fits between the standard diverter valve and the tturbo) just makes the sound of a scooby wannabe, and has no other gain other than drawing attention to you in your skoda....

Revo filter is purely a replacement filter that fits in your std air box. IMO its a waste of money. For an extra £70-100 get something like a forge intake or ITG which is more efficient ductiyng, larger filter surface area etc and you'll have guaranteed gains

Thats incorrect

Stage 1 map is say £400

Stage 2 map is alsosay £400

Upgrading to stage 2 when your already stage 1 is normally around £70-100

Cheers for that defo going to go for the exhaust now and work my way up once a few more folk have ventured into the higher power regions and seen how it affects reliablity

£250 for a remap :o 250bhp :o Induction kit covered by warranty? :o .......Where do you start? :p

Where's that picture of Jean Luc Picard with his hand across his face when I need it? :D

Also the tuner has been recomended by friends as he has built their track cars and they both had small engines with highpower(inc. 1.3T glanza with 300+hp) and they had no problems with his work so im pretty confedent going with him.

Also would be intrested in what u guys think in a TMC box as on thier website it quotes 215bhp which as pointed out above would be difficult to achieve

At the OP

Just because your friends cars made loads of power via him, it doesnt mean he knows anything about this engine and more importantly the ecu. Any tuner can increase boost, fuelling and timing, but the vag ecus are hugely complicated compared to the ones from say 10 years ago, even the top vag tuners highlight it as a dificult car to tune

Well cheers for the info mate will look more into ut before doing anything i never relised how complicated it was
