Anyone tried cheap coil overs?

Featured Replies

I was just messing about on ebay and found a few coil over suspension kits for the VRS for under £200. I know you get what you pay for but has anyone tried any on their octy?

yup, go low and don't even ride as bad as i thought they would! compared with the ride quality of the £500 i had on my other car they aren't a million miles apart.

What are they like when not set to low?

i didn't even bother riding high...literally wound the fronts as low as they could with helpers still in and adjusted the back accordingly

What's the ride like though Lee ?? My civic had tein monoflex and they were excellent. My octy has koni fsd shocks with h+r springs and the ride is brilliant but a little soft and too high ? Are the JOM coil overs worth the hour of my life to fit them ??

I have jom plus coilovers on mine, basically same as the v maxx ones, they were about 350 so about middle of road for fixed shock coilovers,

I haven't had any trouble and there not a bad ride altho I have the rears set as high as they will go with the fronts set to match,

The rears are a little to low for my liking but i do use my boot

And how does the ride/handling compare to STD in all honesty?

I have VMAXX coilovers and the ride seemed okay at first. Much firmer than stock but not bad. After a few thousand k's it's kinda bouncy and SWMBO hates it. Seriously thinking of investing in some more expensive suspension now. Either Shocks and springs or KW coilovers.

ride isn't crashy, just firmer. had Daiyama's on the ek4. will send you a link to my coilies

The ride is alot harder than standard, but then again they are coilovers,

I do find them abit bouncey, i think i prefer ride on normal shocks and springs

Got my coil overs on and the ride is ok so far. There only a little harder than the koni fsd. I will do a few hundred miles on them and report back

You might find this thread from Rob interesting as i think it gives honest feedback on some coilovers.

To folks that are thinking of changing from either std or performance shocks and springs to coilovers, coilovers are going to be a lot firmer. Also the cheaper coilovers IMO do not like to be lowered too far.

consider this on your purchase and why you want to go coilovers.

Simple reason i'm thinking about coilovers is the cost. My octy has 130k on the clock now and is due new shocks and springs to tighten things up again. Cost of cheap coil overs is cheaper than new standard shocks/springs. The ride hight would be set as close to standard as possible due to the iffy speed bumps aound my area
