Well i got my playstation a week after they came out and so did the guy at work. When he bought the game he took it home and it wasnt working so he took it back to virgin and they gave him another one and that one wasnt workin either so he phoned sony and that was what they told him.Apparently because GT4 uses an advanced graphics engine its using parts of the PS2 that havent ever needed to be used before.I dont know.Im tempted to buy it and see what happens but i dont want to waste my money if it isnt going to work.Hmmmmmm.

You wont be wasting your money, if it doesnt work with your playstation 2, you will get your money back.

Sounds more like Sony may have finally found a way to stop discs working on a chipped machine..

Of course it may just be that the laser has gone on the PS2 (nothing uncommon there then)

That would be a seriously bad move on Sony's part IMO, a major part of the appeal of the PS2 is the fact that it can be chipped to play import games, I'm gonna be hiring it from Blockbuster on Sunday just to make sure it works on my chipped PS2, if not well I won't be bothering to buy it.

Most of the really old PS2's had duff lasers in them, and if you do a search on google you can find laser replacements. Sony had to replace loads of these.

GT4 does also have intelligent copy protection and i think it also includes chipped machines...

I would research the former

It didnt stop Sony taking to court the makers of the earlier chips from the early PS2,s, and they won.

But your right, that is why the PS was the market leader, and why the X-Box is doing so well.

i have a chipped ps2 which is a few years old and my copy works ok

Well I was one of the few that pre-ordered and got a launch machine and it works perfectly for me. I only have problems with non-dvd games.
