First oil change @ dealer's

Featured Replies

This week I was at the dealer's for the car's first oil change at 7500KM. I had some worries beforehand, that they would not use Castrol Edge 5w40 but hey, they are an official dealership so they should know better.

After the change, I asked the technician what kind of oil they used and he said he had used a 505 00 one, and in my question if it was a 5w30 or 5w40 he said 5w30.

Now that sounds a little strange to me as according to the manual, the suitable oil type for the RS engine at fixed servicing is 502 00 and for variable servicing the 504 00. I don't see anywhere 505 00 mentioned so I was confused as to why they had used that oil and if it will do any harm... I had no issues with increased oil consumption so far.

So is that oil ok for my car or they made a bad choice?

As I understand it the greater the number the higher the spec of oil.

So a 505 is higher than a 503,502 etc.

I suspect your garage uses just the 505 spec as they can safely put it in anything( unless it requires a 507 spec like the modern diesels.)

yeah its fine... my fiorst oil change had an oil I'd never heard of before! (I did a thread, cant remember what oil) but did some web research, and its good stuff, at spec 505, so higher spec than ness for the vRS...

Right, I reckoned it should be good, but sometimes even the dealers screw things up...

The 505's are diesel specs 505.00 is the old pre pd diesels,505.01 is pd spec,502.00 is the petrol spec for all new volkswagen engines.

If you are on a set 10k 1 year interval they probably used quantum platinum (or equivelant brand) 5w/40 which meets 505.00/505.01/502.00.

If it is longlife it will be longlife3/castroledge/shell 5w/30 which is spec 504.00/507.00
