Passat TDI 130 vibration on overrun and at specific revs

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My dad currently has a 53 Plate VW Passat with the 130 TDI engine in it.

He recently had an incident where someone decided to pull out on him at a roundabout and he had to boot it to get out of the way, at the time he said the car made a bit of a clunk as he did this.

Since then he states he's been having a problem with a strange rattling/vibration when the car is between 1300-1600RPM and on the overrun. He seemed to think that it was the exhaust blowing and took it to the garage yesterday, they had a look at it and couldnt see anything and just told him to let it develop.

I had a run out in it last night and there is definitley an almost "Gurgling" vibration as he describes, however i dont think its anything to do with the exhaust as it seems to be coming from the front of the car.

As such, was wondeing if anyone might have any ideas as Dad is getting himself all worked up that it might be a knackered engine mount

Cheers

Could be the tensioner on the aux belt, though that tends to be a metallic noise. If it is you should be able to see it vibrating.
