Skoda Fabia Stalling

Featured Replies

Hi, I bought a used Y reg 85 thousand mile Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V comfort and had lots of problems with it since i bought it as follows:

1) The Rev was varying alot after driving for a while, the garage cleaned the EGR Valve and pipe and became ok.

2) The car sometimes after driving it for a while, the EPC and Traction control lights come on and when slowing down, the engine switch off. Two times it started again after 5 minutes trying , but last two times in one week time, it wont start but after two three hours. Garage changes the camshaft position sensor, didnt fix it. Now the computer is giving throttle actuator sensor fault but the garage think the following:

i) The engine burn some oil and this might be causing throttle body blocking.

ii) Suggest cleaning the throttle body and add a substance to reduce the oil burn and clean the engine.

iii) try it for 500 miles and then do a service.

iV) if the problem still exist to change the throttle body and quoted me 450 pounds.

v) The garage cant still gurantee that this will fix the problem.

Please note that the car didnt do service for nearly 20000 miles , when this poblem happen always the EPC and traction control light comes on and then switchoff at slowing down. Three times the computer didnt save any fault codes when it switched of, this is the onle time to save a code of throttle actuator sensor, but garage dont think it is the sensor.

So i wonder if any one had similar problems and what was the solution.

Thanks and my best regards.

I has EXACTLY this problem, I replaced the ignition coil, the leads and plugs, the temperature sensor and finally the EGR valve itself. Replacing the EGR valve fixed it, replacing everything else improved it slightly.

Thank you for your reply, but was it clear what was the relation between this stalling and the lights of the EPC and traction control coming on before the car stops and wont switch off.

Thank you in advance and my best regards.

Walid.

No, it was never clear, the ECU would report random faults and had me chasing round in circles, EPC is simply an ECU setting to make the car more stall resistant by injecting more fuel. The reason the car won't restart is because too much fuel is being injected into the warm engine so you have to let it cool down before it will start.

If you get a new EGR valve fitted and adapted and the ECU reset the problem should go away. You must run the car on super unleaded and you must rev it much more to cure the oil consumption issues.
