Need some technical help

Featured Replies

I think I may have posted this in the wrong section first time, this is probably better now ... I apologise.

Anyway, on my Leon TDI, it has recently had the cylinder head rebuilt due to a hydraulic lifter failing on me. To cut a long story short it has had new camshaft, lifters, valves and seals, timing belt kit and water pump, and glow plugs.

Now the problem I am having is that it's taking a few seconds of turning over before it starts, it runs rough for the first few mins and is a bit smoky at first. The MPG seems a bit crap according to the computer, however my distance covered and fuel gauge doesn't seem that abnormal, so I'm not sure about this one. Also it is a bit flat for power, doesn't have the same "kick" it used to have.

When the cylinder head was first rebuilt, the injectors were not set correctly, but found out what I thought was the correct info online. Set them using this info, which was with the cam set to its highest point, so the injector was depressed, turn the adjustment screw until the injector reaches its stop, then back 225 degrees. This did not solve the problem and have since now set it to 180 degrees which I was also told is the correct setting. It has now improved it but I am still having the above problems. It does start better now though but not great.

I really am at a loss as to where to go from here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hook up VCDS and see what the injector values are at idle, this should indicate if injectors are correct. We don't use the 150 engine but I'm pretty sure it turn back 225 degree or there abouts, may even be a touch more.

Is this the VCDS that's available to download on the internet? (legally of course lol) I have tried to download this but had problems running on my laptop with Win7. I think I know someone who has a working version though.

What are the values for the 130 engine in the Fabia VRS? At the moment mine are set to 180 degrees, but have already tried 225, and this was worse than it is at 180 degrees.

Anyone else shed anymore light on this?

Quick update on this as I'm no further forward.

Had the injector values read at idle, and none of them are reading the same value. I'm not sure what the exact figures were, but they were all considerably different...

Anyone help any more with this? Cheers

Hi,

First the injectors are set right at 180 degrees, the values you get for each cylinder do vary but the sum of the four readings should add up to -1.9 to +2.8 for a balanced engine.

The car really needs a good check over with vcds to check both air and fuel reading and any other faults present.

Vcds lite is a free download, interface cable available from Gendan for £20, this would be enough to obtain enough information to diagnose the problem further. This version can be registered for about £62 giving you more functions.
