2007 Octavia vRS TDi PD

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been enjoying my 2007 (57) diesel vRS now for a couple of weeks.

Had the injectors replaced FOC thanks to another thread on here and seen an increase of around 5mpg as a direct result

One other quick query though. I also have a 2008 140bhp diesel Octavia Scout. This starts almost immediately after turning the key and idles silky smooth.

On the vRS I noticed that it is slightly more reluctant to start, only slightly, maybe a second or so longer on the key than the Scout. I also noticed this morning that it was lumpy for a few seconds, I could feel the engine jumping ever so slightly through the peddles and steering wheel.

After this is settles down just fine.

Both cars have around 30,000 miles on them, have full Skoda service history (fixed / 10,000 or 12 months) and otherwise run and operate faultlessly.

Could there be an obvious fix for this? I initially put the slow starting down to failing battery, but the lumpy tick over this morning has lead me to think it might be something else?

Any idea lads and lasses?

Do you park it facing up-hill? Did it feel like it was running on three cylinders for a few seconds?

Yes and yes!

Well almost, facing slightly down hill but running on 3 fits!

Incidentally it is parked next to the Scout in the same direction and on the same level of incline, the Scout starts fine...

The vRS replaced this Peugeot 306 and is parked in exactly the same position.

Do you think this could be contributing to the problem?

When it starts, is there a slight rattle, more so when cold?

Also if you drive on very light throttle, do you get a slight "hicup" when you press the throttle harder?

What's it like when starting from hot?

Reason i ask is mine was the same as above, Dealer diagnosed a Duel mass flywheel problem and replaced it under warrenty, now starts and drives like new.

Hi Mike,

I haven't noticed any other anomalies (that can't be attributed to my dodgy clutch control :giggle: )

She is a little nosier than the Scout when cold but I wouldn't describe it as a rattle.

Unfortunately I haven't had the car long enough to try a hot start, will hopefully get a chance to check this week.

Have heard a few worrying stories about DMF failures, does this affect the 2.0 170bhp PD vRS?

Many thanks.

yeh it does mate, and petrols

It's got a 12 month warranty on it so I'll be watching for the above symptoms very closely!

Tried parking it the other way on the drive last night so that the nose was pointing up.

It started much better with no lumpiness, but then it was -3 so not sure if the outside temperature made any difference...

Hmmm. The reason I asked about the slope is mine used to have an occasional problem where it wasn't getting fuel and was incredibly hard to start sometimes when it was parked facing up-hill. It would eventually fire up, running on 3 cylinders for a few seconds. Some other people reported the same issues on PD170s, but it was always seemed to be when parked facing up-hill, not down.

Have a read of another thread on here at the moment. It seems Skoda agents are reluctant to change DMFs under warranty.

Oh boy am I glad I scrapped the DMF and went for a solid conversion. It seems like DMFs cause more problems than they solve.

Mike

Over the last few years the level of information I've been able to gather on the Skoda Octavia has been invaluable, so much so that before I joined Briskoda I'd never even driven a Skoda, now me and the wife have one each!

I'm also aware of the general emphasis on motoring forums to attract those people who have experienced problems with their cars and are either looking for advice or to vent their frustration, perfectly normal and great for the likes of me to be able to understand the potential weak points on any future purchase.

I've had the ABS/ESP failure on the Scout (fixed under warranty) and have just had the injectors replaced on the vRS (paid for by Skoda UK). Had I not known about these well documented issues from this forum then at least one of them could have cost me some hard cash to put right.

There are other weaknesses such as the turbo on the 140 PD Scout and DMF on the vRS that I'll need to watch out for so it is likely I will need to weight up the pro and cons of paying for an extended warranty or putting a little extra away every month to cover any future bills.

I've read the other thread on the DMF issue with interest and will be looking very carefully for the common symptoms.

Thanks to all!

Interesting, I do have a habit of trying to stay in second gear rather than press against the syncromesh for first. On my old car this was fine however I have noticed that the vRS doesn't like it as much and I occasionally get what I would call kangarooing rather than juddering. Will keep an eye on it!

Thanks for the advice Mike!
