Replaced dog bone mount - what a difference

Changed the dog bone mount as i thought it may need doing, only costs £32.

Easy job, couldnt believe the difference, car feels like new.

I did have a problem with the bolt through the middle of the dog bone mount coming loose at around 35k so perhaps thats why its made a difference on mine.

Also because mine is remapped it feels better when accelerating at 2200rpm than before, sometimes even at 2500rpm it still rumbled, now its all gone, transmission is tightly attached as it was when new.

I firmed mine up with polyurethane resin - it was like stirring soup before - now it's sharp. Bolt-action sharp. A bit of extra vibration coming through the cab, but it'll soften up. In the meantime I don't mind the extra vibration too much - makes my MPI sound meatier hahaha!

Interesting.. so you pour it over the original bush?

Just to add some more to the mix, since you said it maybe little hard currently would the soft polythene resin be better?

Uprated engine mounts on daily driver diesels are a no no!

I had all vibrateknics mounts in mine and i needed dental treatment for missing fillings every other day :o

Bit like the old issue of standard air filter vs after market ones isnt it.

Buy an uprated bush for £60 chatter chatter wheres me teeth gone,

Or just change the standard part every 50000 miles for £30 a time...

Not with the 70shore hardness SuperPro one!....but if you do want it go for the Vibratechnics one :giggle:

My chatter was from both lhs and rhs vibratechnics mounts

Coupled with a dogbone one !

Was terrible!

In to S&M are we???.......all 3 mounts as Vibratechnics??!!! :o ok for a track only car...but for a road car!! ...even they don't recommend it when I spoke to them. :no:

I do quite like my DIY solution to be fair. Firm enough but not so firm as to drive me nuts. Gives a nice direct feel, and a little more noise to the cabin which I don't particularly mind either - and that'll quieten down over time. And I just couldn't justify spending £40+ on what is effectively done to the same level for a tenner with a little research.

But I also definitely agree - the dogbone really does need changing at around the same time as other bushes. When you think about it, it goes through possibly more than normal suspension bushes go through as it flexes on every rev of the engine - flat road or not.

Ok after some quick reading, these Superpro 70s or 80s - I think they correspond to the hardness scale of polypropylene as shown here: http://www.machinist-materials.com/hardness.htm

So looking on the tech specs sheet on Chris's DIY option says its at Shore Hardness of: A85

Closest one I found with similar hardness are these:

Good choice - you'll not regret it.

Quick tip - if you can't afford to have your car out for a whole day... Heatguns are your friend.

All I did was duct taped the bottom, lied it on a flat surface, mixed the mixture (the electrolube silver packaging is the outside - you can open that up and there's a seperate pouring pouch with 2 parts that you mix together), and poured in being careful not to get it in the centre holes - then warmed it gently and let it set overnight.

Fitted back on the next morning and it was bang on.

Ok arrived today, I assumed twin pack means it was packaged separately lol obviously not! So I have 500g's of this stuff. I wont need all of it (probably half or less than). Does anyone want to join in the experiment with me?

Its not very helpful how they give safety advice but not actually instructions of ratio mix..

Heh - the electrolube stuff is just one packet with both liquids seperated by a clip - you remove the clip, mix all the liquid together and then cut one of the corners and pour...

The mixing ratio is set with the electrolube stuff. You just mix all together.

I did have enough for 2 - but nobody seemed to fancy it (unsurprising as 80-85 shore in a diesel would be harsh) - maybe people would be more inclined next time providing people have good results ;)
