Roof box and winter tyres

Featured Replies

I've got a code 20 for build this week(42) on my Greenline SE. This should mean only a month or so till I get my hands on it, hurrah!

A few points that you may be able to help me with though.

How will I know it has been built? how the tracker change as it is built and transported?

I'll be getting a roofbox and I'm just wondering what sizes are possible, I'd like to carry skis so would need at least a 175cm diagonal.

Anyone got any experience or recommendations in that area?

Also, the dealers is doing me a nice deal on winter steels with tyres and for the same price I have a choice of Dunlop wintersport 3D's or the Goodyear Ultragrip 8's - I've requested Dunlops for now but any opinions gratefully received.

Goodyear got a better score than the Dunlop's in last weeks AutoExpress test.

There is a thread on here about this, read it the other day. Have a search.

As for the tyres - google some reifentest results and see what the Germans reckon. I've not used either myself but regardless they will massively improve your traction, stopping and cornering in the cold and wet.

Enjoy the new car when it comes

Can't imagine there'd be anything to choose in practice. Both top notch tyres according to pretty well all test results. I have the Dunlops but would readily have had either.

Got the Goodyear Ultragrip 7+ myself ( for a good price) but as pointed out both tyres will offer a winter capability way above anything required in the UK.

Go for the Goodyears, they were also higest rated in various European tests, including the ADAC, although the sizes tested were much smaller than that required for the Yeti.

I have had very good experiences with Goodyear winter tyres, although older than the -8.

I took Kleber Krisalp HP2 on 215 60R16. I have never run ... with winter tyres. Will see...

Dunlop Wintersport 3D have been superseded by yes you've guessed it Wintersport 4D! They claim to be better in most respects than the older tyre - with at least one more 'D'!

Thanks everyone, plenty to chew over there.

The "which tyre" debate seems to be never ending but overall it seems like any reasonably well know brand will be a quantum leap over summer or all-season rubber. So I shan't sweat it too much.

That's the right conclusion.
