Hi, I considering buying an Octavia so thought I'd join the forum to search for peoples opinion.

I currently drive a Kia Sportage 2.0TDI XS which has been excellent since new but now at 4.5 years and 70k miles I'm looking to change it. One of the main reasons to change is the Kia's 36mpg (seems to be hardly any fluctuation regardless of driving conditions) so looking at an Octavia 2.0TDI (140) CR with a listed mpg of 57.6. My calculation soon clocks up savings of over a grand each year. However while I expect to return a few mpg below the manufacturers stated figures (on the Kia I achieve 90%) reading the forums and the rest of the web there seems to be wild fluctuations - if I'm not going to achieve ~50+mpg then I might stick with what I've got. There also doesn't seem to be too many reviews or real life mpg ratings on the newer/ current range of Octavia engines.

I am pretty sure that the SE Plus has the toys I need - I'm considering dual control climate control as an add on but wondering if that is something worth having or just something else to go wrong. I think it looks good in white but will I be mistaken for a taxi too often? I also prefer the look of the estate but really don't need the extra space.

On the engine front I can't decide between the 1.4TSI (chain cam and some websites state that there are problems with the diesels (...too many piezo injector failures and HP pump failures. Best avoided for now unless under warranty. The beauty of the PD system is that the highly stressed pump plunger followers are oil rather than fuel lubricated. It makes a considerable difference.), 1.6TDI or the 2.0TDI(140). I've rejected the 2.0TDI(110) as it has the higher fuel consumption of the more powerful 140PS but with the performance almost the same as the 1.6 so I can't see the point????

Can anyone give me a steer here?

Ian
