Brief whining noise when pulling away

Featured Replies

I have recently had a whining noise coming from under the bonnet when pulling away in first gear when the car is cold. It is only a very brief whine as the clutch is released and once the car has warmed up I can no longer hear it. Do you think it's a clutch/flywheel bearing and if so what would you recommend doing about it if anything. I haven't noticed that the noise has got louder at all but that's what I'm keeping a close eye on. It's a 1.4 8v MPI.

Gearbox input shaft front bearing. They last for ages even when they complain a bit, so no need to worry unless is starts to growl. Consider a gearbox oil change to prolong the bearings life. Could also be a slightly noisy clutch release bearing, but it would whine in neutral with the clutch down, and stop when clutch released.
