fitting a flying 3.5mm jack for my htc

Featured Replies

Hello,

1st post as i'm thinking of buying a vRS with a factory fitted Symphony radio/CD. As there is no 3.5mm aux socket the options I have are either using one of those FM transmitters (I have used one with a Sony phone before) or getting a 3.5mm 'flying' lead to appear neatly where my HTC phone would sit attached to the air vents. Any ideas if this is possible? How do you select the aux input on the control panel?

Also with the cigarette lighter socket being next to the handbrake (rather than in the ashtray at the base of the centre console like on my Polo) do owners just run a longer cable to power phones/satnavs etc?

all the best,

Mike

Welcome. :)

The easiest way is to get a box that plugs into the cd changer socket on the back of the symphony unit. Connects 2 is a popular model, but ebay has many others. Going to go down this route on mine soon.

This will give you a flying lead to plug into your device.

As for the cigarette lighter position, yeah, it's pretty awkward.. I stretch my charger to windscreen for satnav at moment, but try to run on batteries where possible. I'll fizx this issue when I install it on mine.

Fitted a "flying" 3.5mm jack and cradle for my HTC in the Roomster.

Ran the cable down behind the dash and along the centre console. The other end pops out and into the AUX in socket between the seats. You will need some sort of configuration for the Mk1 Fabia Symphony unit as it has no AUX in. Or an aftermarket stereo.

When it comes time to sell up I have a spare plastic blank for the dash

Thanks Benjamin. I assume its no problem removing the Symphony unit and fitting this box in the back? I'd like to place my cradle as I have now, fitted on the vents in the centre of the dash. Just wondering how the cable would appear out of the dashboard....

No problemo.

If you have the radio keys, then no issue removing.. Unsure how much of a tight squeeze it will be behind there though - i'm sure you can manage though!

I'm probably going to modify one of the blank switches next to my ASR button in the middle of dash, probably with a 3.5mm socket on it, so it looks pretty stock, and can use a short flying lead to plug into my phone. Or perhaps a USB socket if I get the right box.. I'm still looking into my options.

The 3.5mm socket idea will look the most pro B) and give the most options for different smartphones. Are you going to move the 12V socket as well?

Not entirely sure at the moment.. I have an iphone (don't mock ) so charging & playing through one lead is an option if I get the right interface box. Still trying to work out the best solution to look neat & do what I require - cannae be arsed with an aftermarket headunit.

Get a stereo with bluetooth.. job done,no wires, simple.

The Connects2 box sits nicely above the stereo, In behind the switch blanks, Which for your application makes running the 3.5mm cable a doddle!

I would recommend a higher quality 3.5mm to Phono cable as the standard one is pants, And the right-angled jack is a pain in the hoop! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Bought the vRS :-)

Nice surprise to find the 6 CD changer hidden under the front pax seat that I wasn't told about!!!

Got to decide now whether I wasnt to disconnect it to allow me to buy and plug in the Connect 2 box for my phone...

And to find a neat way of running a power cable upto the cradle from the 12v socket by the handbrake - what daft place to put it!!!!!!

Carefully does it. The connects 2 box listed merely allows "music to flow". Control of tracks playing is from the phone. There's another *(though more expensive) Skoda specific connects 2 box that allows USB sticks. ISTR it's £70.

OK. I didn't think the Symphony panel would control my phone, just wanted to plug a 3.5 mm jack into it.

Ah, OK. As for cable routing, you could drill a hole in one of the switch blanks above the radio.

Does anybody happen to know the part number for the switch blanks as I am in need of two of them

Which ones need replaced?

Two required for those immediately under the central air vents.

Thank You Kind Sir

If you install this item does it mean the CD player becomes redundant? Is there any wiring other than block connectors involved please?

Many thanks

The Connnects 2 (and similar) boxes connect into the CD changer port on the back of the head unit - you cannot run both. The single slot CD in the dash will still work.

Thankyou for the update,appreciated
