Difference between Mk1 Superb and Mk1.5 superb?

Featured Replies

I've got the choice of 2 Superbs I'm looking at, both Elegance models but one is a 2005 1.9PD with 51k and the other is a 2007 2.0PD, the later one has the new rear lights but are there any other differences spec wise with the later Mk1 Superbs?

Cheers, Jim.

Yes the biggest difference is the engine the 1.9 PD is bomb proof whereas the 2.0 PD140 eats oil pumps (and wrecks the engine/turbo etc) for breakfast at some VERY low miles (less than 40K) and should be avoided in a Superb / Passat / Audi at ALL COSTS - DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!

Sorry for the capitals but this cannot be stressed enough!

2.0PD - "at ALL COSTS - DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!"

...just in case you missed it the first time! :giggle:

Pssst stop saying it in case we afflicted want to sell! Or like me buy one with a replacement skoda engine that you know the history of from new and take your chances with a mint spec for cheap money! If nothing else if my oil pump goes I can warm my backside on heated leather waiting for the tow truck!

At the risk of being flamed off the site! The 2.0PD 140 is a really nice car, it's at 79k and has had the usual cambelt etc. As most of the previous gen A4's come with the 2.0PD in some guise is it really that likely that this car will lose the pump and then the engine? If so can I replace it early (e.g now) and get rid of the issue with a part with the issue fixed or is this impossible? I'm looking at doing the deal imminently.

I really appreciate all the feedback, just want to know all the angles so I can make the right decision.

regards, Jim.

at the end of the day - you pays your money and takes your chance. But I wouldn't let you pay with my money.

Make sure you have read ALL the appropriate threads on here - there are one or two that specifically cover the [non]ability to predict which 2.0PD engines are likely to be affected, and which might not (and not just in the Superb). I'm not aware there is a reliable replacement, unless you can get the bit fabricated yourself as i think someone on here alluded to.

Ok, dropped the 2.0pd and waiting to here if the 1.9pd has any history, if anyone hears of a good 1.9 Elegance with reasonable miles and FSSH let me know. Cheers.
