1.9 TDI Elegance

Featured Replies

You thoughts please, my son is considering an Octavia Elegance Mk 1 1.9 tdi 110 bhp, it's an 03 model with 100,000 miles, full history and in excellent condition, 2 previous owners. What's it worth and are there any things to look out for when looking at the car ? Regards Monkster.

I bought mine 2 months ago exact same spec and age in silver with 82,000 on the clock and I paid £2500. I would aim for £2000ish. How much is it advertised for?

That's the model and year as mine only mine has 6k more miles. i don't think there is anything to look out for over and above any other car.

Check the usual such as when was timing belt changed, brake pads and disks (i am due second set of pads soon all round but disks ok) exhaust, cat (has it still got one, mine give up at 100k, was removed and drives better without), shocks etc.

i would also check all electric windows (common issue) and the climate control for full operation (max to min temps with Auto and Econ).

It may be prone to the usual turbo diesel issues like sticking variable vanes, faulty EGR valves, Air mass meters etc. If you can push for a full test drive where you can put the engine under some pressure such as accelerating from 1000 rpm in 3rd or 4th on a steep hill or flooring it in 3rd to the rev limiter. this is normally where i would notice any issues (under load) and the car would go into limp mode. If you are seriously considering it i would ask when it was last on a diagnostics machine and if there is a print out (fault codes etc).

Thanks for the advice, it's up for offers around £1,900. I'll take it for a good test drive as advised. regards Monkster.
