Problem with vRS power

Featured Replies

Hi,

Last night I had a problem with my 55 vRS. Pulling away from the lights I heard something bang, then no acceleration.

I can rev the engine in neutral but it's struggling to drive the car. There is also a whirring noise (which I'm guessing is the turbo) if there's any work for the engine to do, such as uphill. On a flat at 20mph or so it's quiet.

No EML or other warning lights on. Temp gauge is normal.

Any ideas? I'm guessing either Turbo or clutch.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Watford area?

Could be just a boost hose popped off.

Car may just be in limp mode.

Check all the unions on the boost pipe, it's usually

the bottom one near the intercooler that comes apart.

Quite a common fault as the unions are rubbish.

Thanks for that.

Hmmmm. Maybe I've got the wrong part, but looking underneath the car just in front and inside of the right wheel. There's a short (large diameter) rubber 90degree pipe going into a silver pipe which ducts back up to behind the engine. The connection seems sound - I can't pull it off, but there is rather a lot of oily grime around there as if something is leaking. Looks odd considering there's not much oily grime visible elsewhere.

Would oil be getting into this pipe? Reading the description it looks like it should just be carrying air through.

Sounds like it could be a dead turbo...

Blown turbo won't give an eml, but will give the symptoms your describing, plus if the oil seal is gone oil will pass through into your intake system. The turbo sits just above the drivers side front wheel at the back of the engine.

I suggest you DO NOT drive the car anywhere until you confirm it is or is not the turbo; if all your oil falls out, thats bad, if you start burning oil in your cylinders, thats bad too.

Yup oil isnt good!

But the pipes do have some oil weap even if the turbo is sound!

Most common place for the hoses to pop off would be before and after the intercooler!

You can see the hose before the intercooler if you look under the car theres an inspection hole thingy on the undertray near the drivers wheel

And the hose after the intercooler sits right below the drivers headlight.... You might be able to sneak a peak at it from the engine bay
