16" Wheels and 'Sports' Suspension

Featured Replies

Hello! Been a Skoda drive on-and-off since 2004, with a 1.8T Octavia. More recently, a Roomster TSi/DSG.

Now have a Fabia SE+ on order (again TSi/DSG) and am pondering on whether to add the 16" wheels and 'sports' suspension options, both of which seem well priced.

Any comments would be very much appreciated. Car will be red. Fuel consumption is important to me though.

Many thanks!

1.2 TSI DSG?

It will look better with the 16'' and sports suspension - not the same car, but my dad's previous Octavia (has a Yeti now) had upgrade wheels and sports suspension and looked ace. Not much different in ride comfort either!

Thanks, yes the 1.2.

no difference between 15 and 16" wheels in terms of comfort, been in vrs with 17", still comfortable, in the fabia anyway.

Do it, but just be aware that the seats aren't anywhere near as supportive as the vRS/Monte Carlo seats.

They're comfy, just lack some side support.

I agree - the seats on my vRS are very supportive, much better than the MK1 vRS I used to get back ache in those.

Many thanks for the replies. As fate would have it the window for making such changes has literally just closed so I was too late.., never mind, saved a few hundred pounds anyhow :)

I can't comment on the ride comparison, but in speccing my wife's 500, choosing the 16" wheels over the standard 15" ones (with the same overall design) makes the world of difference to the 'kerb presence' of the car.

Talking of the Fiat 500 - have you seen the new Ferrari special edition with 180 bhp and 230NM (250NM in Sport) looks cool :)

you can always get 16" wheels fitted afterwards for cheaper than the dealer

Ah, but then it's a modification on the insurance, and a higher premium. If you get the factory option, insurers usually don't charge extra even though you still need to declare them.

Factory option is cheaper too.

best to check with the insurance company, i checked with mine and certain things are no extra premium, oem wheels are no extra but after market wheels are extra, tints, mud flaps, dice hang is no extra too

Economy seems to be 50mpg on a run and 35-40mpg around town although ours has only done 2000 miles.

From new the maxidot is showing 43mpg. Probably around 40mpg actual.

Performance is a lot better than the figures suggest especially off the line but i find that with most dsg cars.

Cheers
