Front passenger door will not unlock!

Featured Replies

My front passenger door has not been unlocking every time recently but a gentle pull on the interior handle would have the lock button jump up and all would be well. However today the door will not unlock at all after many attempts and wondered if there is a magical way to deal with it. Is there constant power to the central locking when locked so that disconnecting the battery will release the mechanism? Not tried it yet. If necessary, is it possible to pull away the door trim inside while the door is locked ? Any advice much appreciated. Cheers. KF>

Update! managed to remove the door card and inner plate to get access to the door lock assembly . After trying to release the wiring connector without any luck I tried the key fob again and the door unlocked. Maybe it was a connection fault at the connector, but I have sprayed all around any linkage and moving parts with WD 40 to see if it helps. My worry now is that as the car is a taxi and I dread to think of a passenger being unable to get out if the lock should enable itself and get stuck again. So, is there a way to disable the central locking just on the front passenger door without disabling any other feature? There are a number of coloured wires going to the locking unit and someone might know which wire operates the locking mechanism.

In the short term at least, you could just unplug the multi-plug within the rubber bellows between the hinges. This will turn off the central locking to that door - but also the power to the window and the door illumination. (And possibly to the mirror as well?). But at least the door will not make a prisoner of your fares!
