Push Bars?

Featured Replies

Yes you read correctly... push bars!

I'm thinking of doing something a bit different with my Octy and have come up with a concept design:

Does anyone know how easy / hard this is to do? Have push bars ever been retro-fitted to saloon / hatch cars before? B)

Not my personal taste but it doesn't look overly bad. Would need to make the rest of it beasty if you are going down that route.

I am tempted to turn it into a US police cruiser :giggle:

Why would you want to fit child killer bars to your car, you will in all probably get internal injuries as well, having lost your crumple zones, deactivate your airbag too while you are at it .They are also illegal see here http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/what-car-q-and-a-january-2009/bull-bars---are-they-legal/236992

No... they're not illegal, BULL bars are. The link you posted even shows you a website with road-legal PUSH bars on them... Frontal Protection Systems

wasnt there a thread earlier in the year from one of our far off friends with something similar?

They look like child killer bars to me, your picture shows solid metal bars, I thought a push bar was a towing ball on the front to help towing and manovering a caravan or trailer. plastic bars would be different. If you have ever hit someone, pedestrian, your views about their safety might be different.

The sale and fitment of steel "front protection systems" was made illegal in 2007. Anything of this type now has to be made of soft plastic

Going to make opening the bonnet interesting lol

To end this argument, I intend on getting plastic bars and spraying them gloss black (that way they LOOK metal). The bars in the picture were the only ones I could that were at the right angle to be "photoshopped" on!!!!!! As a former member of Her Majesty's Constabulary, having seen people seriously injured in crashes, I DO NOT intend on killing children! :wonder:

ANYWAY, back to the topic - has anyone else done this before? Was it particularly difficult?

Tech1e - that is a good point. I'll have to keep that in mind :)

IMO..Youre going to create more problems than you can solve

Ditch the idea and do some engine mods instead

The car will benefit and you wont get laughed at in the supermarket car park
