Am i hearing things?

Featured Replies

hi guys, i had the drivers side wheel bearing that was giving me grief changed last week which cured the knocking noise i was experiencing. but now i seem to be hearing a lot of noise inside the car? not sure how to describe the noise only that it seems to be coming from the tyres , as the noise changes when im driving over different road surfaces. as the title suggests maybe im hearing things but im convinced it was quieter prior to having wheel bearing replaced

as always........any hints and tips are appreciated

i had a random rattle before, was a brake pipe rattling about, sorted easily

I get a noise of the tyres but only on one road locally.

Perhaps it's something similar which was quiet with the knackered bearing but has appeared no the bearing is good.

Does that make sense ??

yeah it does!! it does go louder on certain types of road surface! maybe its my tyres? i will check tyre pressure etc tomorrow see if that helps

Could well be tyres, I just changed 4 Fullrun HP199's on my ST because they were so noisy. Stuck 4 Falken 912's on & all is normal now.

scalloped tyres - it has affected loads of people

Camber and toe could well have been disturbed.

Get on a smooth straight quiet road and gently swerve the car from side to side and see if the noise gets louder and quiter from side to side if it does you could well have another failing bearing as they tend to make a droning tyre noise when there on there way out

Check for " stepping " of tread on tires, particularly inside egde.

Mine were like it and I was convinced it wanted a wheel bearing. The tire had worn in a 20p kind of fashion, meaning each little block of tread was at a different height to the next one which resulted in a droning noise above 40.

2 news tires on and problem solved

Hopefully that's all mine is I knw I've a T.R.E off on driver side so when my car is in skoda on thu I will get them to have a look.
