REMOVED MAP SENSOR - now what?

Featured Replies

the 1.4 8v mpi has been getting very sluggish of late and even cut out on me altogether approaching a roundabout last week.

Trawling around here it would appear to be a common enough occurence, with the TB and MAP sensor being usual culprits.

Got underneath the bonnet and disconnected MAP Sensor and gave the TB a lick and a promise and added a bottle of REDDEX to the fuel tank

Car appears to be running much better/smoother now. Quite peky even.

So assuming most likely the MAP sensor was faulty - but given 'performance' seems drastically impproved with it disconnected - is it worth me replacing it with a new one, or just leave it unconnected?

And also if i want to remove the TB and give it a proper clean is that a new gasket job - if so where can i get one? I did a quick ebay search but couldnt find anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Neil

Surely if you've disconnected the MAP... You're running with an engine light on?

I would have thought that not having the map in there would result in over-fuelling at least...

As for the TB, as long as the gasket that comes off isn't torn it can be re-used. Hell, even if you traced the original gasket and cut it out on a bit of card/thick paper it'd probably do the same job - it's not operating under major atmospheric pressures so as long as the TB is tightened down well enough it'll be fine.
