Removing the temp sender (1.9 TDI)

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Had my temp guage on my dash dancing around for the last few weeks so after much searching on here I reckon it's the temp sender in the coolant system. I've grabbed the guide from here -> http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/61178-fabia-coolant-temp-sensor-how-to/

I've found the location but as the guide indicates, the clip for the sensor is facing into the engine. How the heckers do i get this clip off? I've wingled and wobbled but I'm guessing it needs the small screw-driver to prise up a little plastic lip. I've attempted this for the last hour but got as far as dropping the screwdriver and having to remove the undertray :(

So to all who've done it on this engine, what's the trick to releasing the clip?

A massive thanks to anyone who points out where I'm going obviously wrong!

:)

Is it like a surclip shape, that when in position kind of pinches the clip shut? If so, it is just a case of pulling it until you can get the "claw" on each side back over the fitting.

Clips generally are a pain but once you get the nack for doing it, they become easier. ;)

Sensor looks like this so you can see on the neck you need to lift up a plastic tab to get it off. :)

Aha thanks, I've got a replacement sensor. Common sense would have told me to look at the fitting on the sensor...

I'll have another go with a little more force! Thanks :)

UPDATE

Still can't remove the sensor. I've twisted the plug whilst still conencted to the sensor 90 degrees clockwise. I've managed to slip a camera in and it looks like it should just pull out even as one (and seems that way from reading the guide) but I can tug and tug and shake the car but the damn thing won't move. Am I still missing the obvious or should I just keep tugging!

there is a plastic clip that slides in from the side. I found with mine that once the wiring connector is removed you should be able to rotate the sensor so that you can get at the clip that holds the sensor in place. then just pull it out - it slides straight out to the side.

once that is out then you should be able to wigle out the sensor.

IIRC then it may give you a bit more space to see what you are doing if you take out the airbox. its not needed but if you are struggling then it should give you more space to see whats going on.

hope this helps
