Squeaky sunroof

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Yeti has developed an annoying squeak in the sunroof. I'm pretty sure it's either rubber seals rubbing together, or dry joints in the metal mechanisms.

I'm going to lubricate the metal parts wherever I can with some sewing machine oil.

I was thinking talcum powder around any rubber seals - any thoughts on that?

Anyone else have a squeaky sunroof they managed to silence?

Regards,

Rob

Gumipfedge will sort that

Do NOT use sewing machine oil or any other mineral based oil on rubber seals!!!

If you don't have the stuff linked to by Merlinman, then only use a silicone based product. Even Mr Pledge is better than oil.

Blimey, thanks for the warning

I was only going to use oil on the metal parts of the sunroof mechanism, but I guess it would unavoidably get on the rubber too.

(I was going to use sewing machine oil because I had success with it silencing a noisy bearing on my combi boiler fan!).

Try Carbaflo if you can get your hands on any.

Here's a web site that sells it:

Not cheap though at £75.44. On the other hand, if it does the job....
