Wax recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi all. I'm after some wax recommendations for the new year when I next properly wax my race blue vrs. At the moment and probably throughout the winter it's just poorboys qd+ to top up existing wax on car. I'm not a machine user so something that works well be hand will be better for me

I use auto glym aqua wax and find it great!Quick'n easy to apply, lasts well with water beading for weeks and weeks. Happy days!

I have a relatively new vRS and the paintwork is thus in excellent condition. I recently used Autoglym resin polish then waxed on top of this with Collinite 476s, following recommendations on here.

I thought the Autoglym gave a good result but the Collinite stuff is awesome - it gives a great deep luster finish, long lasting beading and is extremely easy to apply and buff (by hand).

I bought a tin on fleabay for under £20 (18oz) and it'll last me ages!

I use AquaWax in the summer when im washing the car every couple of weeks. Works well in smaller intervals and is used in the drying process so doesnt take much time at all to apply.

Recently got some Collinite 476S in preparation for the winter. Took a fair bit of time to get on, however so far the protection and beading is great. I put on three coats and the way it's going so far, im hoping it will last until Feb/March time, meaning no lengthy washes in the freezing winter

Cheers

Colly 476s is all you need after a decent prep with Auto Glym Super resin polish or try Poorboys Black Hole Glaze.

the 476 is extremely easy to apply. Warm it up by leaving it in the house for a couple of hours before hand and apply with a damp applicator. The key to application is less is more and don't rub it in, lightly 'massage' it in applying virtually no pressure then simply buff off. I can wax my car in probably around 15mins.

Colly 845IW is very easy to use and gives a very wet shine and dead easy to use!

Another vote for Collinite 476s here.

Just got an 18oz tin from ebay with applicator pad & microfibre cloth for £23 delivered. The tin is massive and will no doubt last for years.

Few coats of that on for winter and you'll be sorted, easy to apply and buff off providing you don't whack loads of it on.

Give that rear tailgate spoiler some special attention as their all prone to sun fade.

SRP and 476 is a great combination - I'm currently trying SRP, followed by Optimum Optiseal then Optimum Car Wax. Gives a great finish but don't think the durability against 476 is quite there.

Autoglym HD Wax I really like at the moment. Can get it for about £30. It leaves an epic shine and smells great, and the beading/sheeting is just unrivalled. And it lasts for weeks and weeks of washing :)

+1 for the SRP (or Blackhole) then Collonite 476 route for a good finish and winter protection.

Like you - i then use some poorboys QD+ on a weekly basis and its stunning results for no effort!

This is how it looks at the moment

My Monte has been given a coat of AutoGlym HiDef wax which I'm told is a bit more hardwearing for protection through winter (what I'm really after). Easy to apply, buffs off well and looked super smart once finished. Gave the Corrida red another level of depth I'd not seen before, even box fresh from the dealers!

That was 2 weeks ago and I've just done my first wash with a coat of AquaWax to boot. This was recommended as an ideal product use over the HD wax, just to keep it looking peachy. Very easy to apply with fast, effective results. And as said, is part of the drying process so saving you a step. One thing to remember is to use a PH neutral shampoo to prevent the wax applied being broken down by your maintenance wash.

Through winter I'll be giving mine a wash and AquaWax every couple of weeks, with jetwash rinses on a regular basis

Only on Red cars

I have found AGHDW to last about 4 to 6 weeks max

Collinite, more than double that

I use AGHDW in the summer

Which Collinite? You might find the following interesting to read, AG HD Wax really does shine and was found to have 6-9 month durability. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=76435
