octavia 2 instrument cluster/starting problem

Featured Replies

Hello

I have 55 plate mk2 2.0 tdi elegance. Today when I turn the key none of the instrument cluster lights come on and although the engine starts briefly, it stops after about 2 seconds.

All the fuses seem to be ok.

Has anyone come across this problem or have any ideas what it could be?

Thanks.

ps

the "lights on" warning buzzer isn't working either.

Faulty ignition barrel?

Sounds to me it could be a fuse. Double check them by pulling them out one by one also look at engine compartment fuse box aswell as fuse box to side of steering wheel

thanks for your replies.

i have removed, checked and replaced all fuses in both boxes. all are ok.

any other ideas?

Engine will start and stall if the immobiliser is not working and cannot mobilise the car. The immobiliser is also located in the dashpod, so that is not working due to lack of power then the car will not run.

Check and replace the dashpod fuse and your car should run just fine.

the 5A fuse supplying the cluster/dash pod (F6)checks out OK, checked voltage on both sides of fuse also looks ok. Tried replacing with spare fuse anyway...still no good.

could it be a connection on the back of the cluster/dashpod?

Do you get the correct voltages off of the rear of the ignition barrel as you rotate the key?

It sounds to me like you can fire the starter but have no fuel pump running - ie positions 1 and/or 2 aren't working. Might explain why the lights on buzzer isn't working either.

You really need to get it scanned to see if anything shows up as faulty.

Is your battery fully charged?

update:

Upgraded AA membership to RELAY and called them out.

AA man stripped out half the lower dash to check some relays etc but drew a blank. He called technical who suspected the dashpod and advised towing it to specialist garage.

I didn't have time to go with him yesterday so told him I would re-arrange for later in the week.

In the meantime I decided to take out the dashpod to check the connections. Got as far as unclipping the piece of trim below it when it came alive...

Started and drove fine. The only problem now is that the airbag warning light is on. Assuming that I have disturbed something, will it need resetting at SKODA?

I wouldnt be happy unless I knew what it was now. I would be afraid of car letting me down somewhere.

Same here - get it scanned to see what the problem is. The fact that by disturbing wiring in the pod/ignition barrel area has brought it back to life it sounds like a dodgy connection.

Until you get that airbag light cleared you have no airbags!

It sounds like a dodgy connection to the entire steering column to me if the airbag light has come on.
