Octavia 2.0 Tdi 140 L&K limp mode

Featured Replies

Evening.

Apologies if this has been brought up before.

My dad has an 06 reg Octavia 2.0 Tdi 140 L&K with 77k on it and Full Service History.

Twice over the last week the car has gone into limp mode while going up hill. Now my dads a steady away driver and never gives his car any hammer at all which might not help matters but surely this shouldnt be happening.

I had exactly the same issue on a 2001 Seat Toledo Tdi 110 (ASV engine) a few years ago and that turned out to be knackered turbo vanes.

The car had a new EGR valve at 72k due to a split diaphragm ( according to the bill )

Are these 2.0 Tdi engines affected by the same issues with sticky turbo vanes as the old asv engines?

Its going to be plugged in for some fault codes read some time next week. Hopefully it wont come up with overboost.

Im not helping by telling him he should have a mk1 vRS like me!

Yes its very likely to be sticking turbo vanes leading to overboost. Its a fairly common problem on this engine unfortunately.

With the neck end of 80,000 miles without an occasional 'spirited run' means my money is also on a gummed up turbo.

The fault codes will reveal all!

Cheers gents, to be honest I think he'll get rid rather than have it reconned/repaired.

Hes only had the car a few months too

That's a shame. Whilst its quite common with the BKD engine it is possible to get a slightly modded turbo fitted (Turbo Technics??) which shouldn't do it again.

I tend to keep cars for years so that's probably the route I'll go down if/when mine does it.

He's hard work. He wanted a BMW 320d but I talked him into the skoda as is twice the car for half the cash, plus e90 3 series blow turbos......

He wants something smaller, he sat in a golf , didn't like it , now he's looking at golfs and the awful focus.

Ah well.

He sounds like my brother in law, bought a complete new car as his old one needed a new battery and had a cracked fog light cover :giggle:

I previously considered a Focus TDCi but chose an Octavia partly because of the Focus's reputation for blowing turbos! A work colleague has a Focus TDCi and reckons its by far the worst car he's ever owned. A Golf is just a squashed Octavia with a £5k badge stuck on it surely ? :D

Yep , totally agree but he won't listen . He'll go and buy a golf so he can moan he doesn't like that either

My golf tdi 140 did the exact same, i ended up trading it in for my octy :)
