DSG Box....

Featured Replies

Being relatively new to Skoda (actually - anything VAG) and having seen DSG mentioned a few times with regard to transmissions - can anybody enlighten me as to what system actually is? :o

I am considering 'playing' with a new chip in the future but there seems to be a torgue limit for this transmission. I have the 6 speed manual - is that a DSG? :)

Try the new octavia section you can read all about the dsg box...I've driven one wow!!!!!!!!!!!!what a gearbox

doesnt it stand for Dual Sequential Gearbox or something??

a 6 speed manual doesnt sound like DSG to me. the DSG has a auto type gear lever that can be used like a sequential touring car box and padel shift on the steering.

apparently the one in the new golf gti is a bit too slick and spoils things to a point where its too automatic.

dont know anything about Skodas version albeit the same hardware.

As understand it, it basically works by having two clutches in the gearbox and predicts which gear you're going to change to (up or down) and lines it up ready so it can be engaged in a fraction of the time a manual gear shift takes. Came out fairly recently and is available on the new Octy 2.0 140bhp diesel. Certainly gets rave reviews and even Jason Plato said it was the best of the "flappy paddle" systems he'd ever used on a road car!

Don't think you can get it in flappy paddles...It's a stick shift.... Auto.Triptonic and sports box all in one....3 different modes....... all selected by moving the lever into different positions..... Try one you will be impressed

2 gearboxes,2 clutches and lots eletronics. probablyawesome when it wor sweet but if it goes wrong better re-mortgag the house

OK - that sorts that out then - cheers ppl - would seem that I do not have the DSG system (I have the 6 spd manual).

Guess that means that I am not limited to a certain torque.......

Your clutch will probably be the limiting factor ;) Apparently the six-speeds are good for 400 lb/ft (according to a thread I was reasing somewhere on here earlier today!) :D

This is only what Mike @ Jabba believes the 6-speed box will take. It's not tested... yet! any takers???
