hello from me - about to be octavia vrs owner

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Just placed deposit on a 11 plate Octavia 2.0l TFSI DSG VRS. Coming from a Civic TypeR it is going to be quite different I expect, lot more refined / relaxed and better mid-range although maybe less of an edge. I have had a test drive in a diesel octavia VRS and also a Fabia VRS and the main attraction is the DSG box which I am really impressed with. Looking forward to it.

Also, was very confused by the brochure which refers to the car as TFSI when, so I understand, it's a TSI engine?!

Welcome to the site, and your enjoy your vRS DSG

I went for the diesel and haven't looked back since :)

I heard it was something to do with being locked in Pete's Octy and driven around every Skoda garage in the North West until he gave in :)

Hello and welcome to Briskoda Rob.

I also used to have a Civic Type R - Like you say, time to move on and all that. If you do have any questions at all - Please do post them up and I'm sure we will try our best to help where possible.

Rob.

Hehe

There may have been some gentle nudging from certain individuals , but I expect it to be a great choice. Lovely interior and plenty of power that is way more accessible. And as I spend 90% of my time crawling around in traffic jams that DSG will be a godsend.

Update:

So my original post was about me exchanging for a 11 plate candy white VRS DSG. That didn't happen.

Instead I'm now the very proud owner of a Black Magic Octavia VRS DSG Petrol. It's fairly standard spec.

My previous vehicle was, as mentioned a Type R and I wouldn't for one second hear a bad word said against that car, it has a specific use and it excels in that use, sadly my daily commute didn't demand what that car offered. Basically I am now of the view that in the north west vehicles may aswell be sold with only 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears as the rest are pretty much useless on a morning and evening commute. The traffic has been awful recently, to the extent that I don't actually hit 30 mph for the first 20 minutes of my journey and even when I do it depends how clear the roads are. So the Type R, which was an exceptional car on country road runs just didn't cut it. Constantly juggling between 1st and 2nd gear was just tedious, not rewarding in any way, the engine didn't sing it just groaned and I felt like I was denying the true potential of the engine.

So enter the DSG Octavia and - what - a - difference. It's been an incredibly relaxed week so far, I've explained to some people this already - you know that feeling you get when you make a journey from A to B but by the time you get to B you forgot everything, well, with the manual it felt like each journey had 2 states - making progress and crawling. It was the crawling that I remembered, that got me down, constantly feathering the clutch and making slow slow progress, but once you got going, say 50+ mph the journey lapsed, you forgot about it and just got where you were going. With the automatic the bias switches around, now the bits where I'm making progress and the bits where I'm crawling are both quickly forgotten, struggling with nose to tail traffic in the DSG simply does not register. You don't have to think about it.

That is a godsend to me and I have so far loved the Octavia. That's the main reason I've enjoyed it but I will add that once you're up to speed (again 50+) it is very very potent, and if you want to make a quick overtake I daresay it deals with it far better than the Type R could, with the Type R you had to really plan in advance, drop 2 gears and rev it hard, with the VRS DSG you just decide about a second before hand that you want to pass and press the pedal, the car does the rest and it does it quickly and effectively. This is a big difference.

I'm really impressed with it so far and I will try to get some pictures up.
