Airbag light on dash

Featured Replies

I've got the airbag light come on, on the dash.

Also, an irritating bong, and a warning on the MFD every time I start the car.

Plugged in the fault code reader I've got and it showed up

1218 - 225 Side Airbag Igniter Passenger N200 Sporadic 001 Upper Limit Exceeded

Could this be the dodgy connector under the seat that I've read a bit about or is that the wrong error code?

Can I take it Skoda and get it done for nowt?

It's a vRS Octavia, 06 plate.

Any tips much appreciated!

Sounds like an iffy connection, because it's a limit met, which suggests the contacts been breaking adn remaking.

As with all things airbag, unless you know what you're doing, don't play around as one of those going off could be potentially fatal.

The repair is to remove the connectors under the seat and in the floor space and wire direct.

However unless your qualified to do so I wouldn't touch it, it will soon be illegal to do anything with airbag systems unless you hold the appropriate certificate.

Took it to my trusted local garage.

£70 lighter and no warning light ! :)

Apparently they know VAG cars are prone to this.

They took out the seat, took all the connectors apart, cleaned them and put it all back together.

Fingers crossed no-one pushes back the seat too quickly again, or whatever caused it in the first place!

Thanks for the tips.

How long does it now take for the light to go out when you start the car? Garages sometimes deactivate airbags when they cant fix the fault.

I don't know, I'll check tonight.

I took it to my local garage and trust what they told me.

If it's disabled, my fault code reader would show that up wouldn't it ?

I doubt any reputable garage would de-activate the airbag when the fix is a 1/2 hours job!

Ive had the same poblem on every VAG car ive owned, S3, Mk4 Golf and now the Mk2 Octy, simple diy fix on all three, i begrudge paying someone such ridiculous wages!

Dont put the key in the ignition, feel under the seat and find the connector, pull apart and put back together, get some insulating tape and tightly wrap it around the connector, go and get the light turned off and you should have no more problems, its not an MOT fail BTW only an advisory

It is a fail as of next month, the light will have to come on and go out, along with the ABS light and engine management light.

Yeah if your code reader can scan the airbag system it will show a fault code saying it is de-activated.
